Absolutely. I'd always thought that it was a squirrel who was roping into the bird feeders, with them ending up on the ground. The other day I watched the crow pick up the wire loop at the top of one of the feeders and just "unhook" it.

    Remarkable.

    :)

I had a walk along the falls at Balisodare a couple of times yesterday to have a look at the Salmon running up the river, a wee family of Ducks took my attention for a while, the mother Duck and her two Ducklings were in a pool between two shelves of rock, she flew up onto one and called her babies to follow but it was too high for the Ducklings who were calling to her to come to them, the mother eventually came down to comfort them but after a couple of minutes she flew back up on the shelf, again the babies were calling and again she came down to them, I left after a few minutes but came back later in the evening and there was only one Duckling, she had it safe in a small pool just off the main falls, but after a while she flew onto the shelf again but only stayed for a minute before turning and flying away up the falls out of sight leaving the one remaining baby behind calling for her, it was a sad end to the wee drama as i don't think the Duckling would have survived the night given the torrential rain that fell last night, i went back to the falls this afternoon to take some pictures of the Salmon but there was no sign, nature can be cruel at times.

    Thanks @Johniebhoy.

It was funny watching them. They squared up to each other for short while, then just carried on eating.

I forgot this one. Does anyone know what species it is?

As Johnniebhoy says, that first one's an absolute cracker. You'd wait a while to see that combination again, I would have thought! Great stuff.

Some more from the Salmon run, it's difficult to get a decent shot of the fish, you just don't know where they're going to surface and when they do they're like lightning, a swish of the tail and they're gone.
