Chelsea and Arsenal apparently interested. Well according to the Daily Mail anyway but not sure anything they get is ever right.

Chelsea are keeping tabs on Southampton goalkeeper and prime Celtic summer target Fraser Forster, Football Insider understands

The Premier League giants are assessing the giant keeper amid doubts over his future at St Mary’s Stadium.

Southampton are set to listen to offers for Forster, 32, this summer and a recruitment source has told Football Insiderthat Chelsea are among the many clubs interested.

They see the 6ft 7in giant as a potential number two rather than a regular starter.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, who became the most expensive keeper in history when he joined Chelsea for £72million in 2018, was restored to the starting XI before the mid-March lockdown.

But he has had two mixed seasons at Stamford Bridge, while his deputy * Caballero is 38 and has just a year left on his contract.

Chelsea are in the market for at least one new keeper this summer and have already demonstrated their ambition by agreeing to sign Timo Werner in a £54million deal to be completed later this month.

Forster is valued at around £10m by Southampton as prices tumble due to the pandemic.

He had plummeted to third in the goalkeeper pecking order under Ralph Hasenhuttl before he rejoined Celtic on loan last August.

The Hoops will pull out all stops to re-sign Forster although his £70,000-a-week Saints salary is a major stumbling block to a permanent deal.

The former Newcastle United man has played some of the best football of his career in his second spell at Parkhead.

He was integral to their successful title defence and delivered one of the outstanding individual displays of the season in last December’s Scottish League Cup win against Rangers.

Can’t see FF wanting to go from sitting on the bench at Southampton to sitting on the bench at Arsenal or Chelsea.

He’s made money. Think he will ultimately want to come here, maybe to see out his career.

Contract extension/renewal for Eddy and big Fraser back permanantly would go a long way to us having a good window. :50: Dunno if we can make it happen but be happy as * if we do.

    Here we go again
They'll want him for the bench so they can have meet their homegrown player quota.

Well I would like to think so as well. But money speaks for everything, just depends how badly he wants to be here.

I just hope that we have a plan B, in case we dont get him.
At 10M and 70K a week as starters, may be out of our reach, especially if EPL big guns go after him.
And please, get Gordon out of the picture regardless.

If any of those 2 are serious competitors we have no chance of getting him, fantasyland to think he won't go there, tbh he even has a good chance of getting a game as Kepa and Leno are not undroppable as already seen. They'll drive the fee out our range too.

If we can get him great, but he's hardly the difference between us and 10. Just concentrate on getting a few others and see how the gk position is near end if we can't do something with FF.

I doubt at 32 he wants to go be number 2 at either of these 2 clubs he will play week in week out with us and in europe. would get paid better at the other 2 but will only play cup games and the odd game here and there. Don't think he wants to do that or he would pick up 70 grand at Southampton no sweat

The absolute last thing I want to do is “see how the gk position is near end”.

FF has been the difference maker in a lot of our success and he can be a difference maker in the 10.

The cup and some European games, as I said if he's the difference between us and Rangers then there's a whole lot of problems at our club.

If we don't want to fart around make a bid the now, he isn't worth £10m to us, I'd go half at a very big push.

Try the now, try and see if Ed will sign an extension, then CH and LB and we're about good to go.

You could say that about every player at the club. Doesn’t work like that. Every position is important to us.

If the reports are true there’s no way we get him now. Southampton will try push thE transfer to those teams cos they know they’ll pay. And if Forster is offered 70k at one of those to be number 2 for 4 years he’ll take it. He’ll be 36 by the time that contract finishes and he’ll still probably be better than whatever keeper we have then. His England hopes are gone now at his age id say so he might not necessarily have the urge/need to play regularly.
If we don’t get him we can’t afford to just go for a * last minute keeper that’s available. I’d rather stick with Bain or give hazard/doohan a chance if that was the case

He was miserable at Southampton, and even top clubs will be reluctant to pay more than £70,000 a week for a back-up goalkeeper.

He will only go to Arsenal or Chelsea if he genuinely believes that he can oust Leno or Kepa.

I believe that he is good enough to do that, but it would be a big gamble at this stage of his career.
