The right decision in my opinion. Simply not good enough.

The policy of shifting deadwood only works if we stop stockpiling dross. None of the other left backs currently at the club are good enough either, and I think we should be trying to shift them out of the door as well.

And that’s Jonny’s opinion, it doesn’t mean your cost cutting opinion is correct does it? Players come and go it’s what happens in the sports industry.

Hayes was anything but dross. One of the hardest workers in the squad and played an important role in this campaign. I can recall a few games where he was motm. The negative comments On here about the lad seem to be formed on the opinion that he wasn’t a high profile big name signing. I never felt disappointment when he was chosen to play.

Would have liked to have kept him as cover for one more season, but won’t lose sleep over this.

I get what your saying and I agree although I am inclined to think if we have issues because we have a smaller squad surely that is going to trickle on down to the size and quality of the other spfl teams squads as well. So maybe from that standpoint it all ends up being a wash. But time will tell.

I can only think that it was to clear the way for a younger player - Gutman, or Hickey, perhaps.

Aberdeen have made their move for Jonny Hayes and want to get him in for pre-season training this week.

The Dons have opened talks with the freed Celtic winger and Derek McInnes is looking to get a deal tied up quickly.

The Pittodrie side have offered Hayes the security of a two-year deal and are aware the 32-year-old is willing to take a hit from what he was on at Celtic.

Aberdeen’s board and chairman Dave Cormack, despite the club’s financial predicament, have
sanctioned the move to bring the popular Irishman back to Pittodrie.

The Dons now hope they can agree terms over the next 24 to 48 hours that would allow Hayes to start training, with the Dons set to return to Cormack Park in small groups today.

Cormack wasn’t keen to sign players while he has staff on furlough but manager McInnes had made it clear that Hayes is his top target

The other issue for Aberdeen is they couldn’t afford to play the waiting game with Premiership rivals Dundee United, Hibs and St Mirren interested while English League One side Blackpool were the first of the English teams to make their move.

Hayes had five great years at Aberdeen from 2012, where he helped McInnes’ side lift the 2014 League Cup.

The winger then moved on to Celtic where he has played a part in their
title wins over the past three seasons.

    But surprisingly he
was released by the
champions last month
– and Hayes made it clear immediately that he would be keen to make a return to Aberdeen.

Really pleased to see Johnny get a 2 year deal, it's the least he deserves.

Whatever people think about his abilities, his attitude was never in question. And if Brooney likes you, your ok in my book.

    Shame it's Aberdeen though!
