Which Ongoing Domestic Football Dynasties Rival that of Celtic?

Teams that manage to achieve an extended stretch of domestic success, particularly with successive title wins, go down in history as legendary. The Celtic badge has witnessed a great deal of success over the years, with the 1966/67 side that won the quadruple being the epitome of greatness.

Right now, Celtic is on the cusp of surpassing the level of league dominance that the mid-60s/70s team etched into the record books. They’re forging an almighty dynasty that is reserved for elite-level clubs. So, how does Celtic’s ongoing dynastic streak of domestic dominance compare to the ongoing dynasties being forged elsewhere in Europe’s top divisions?

    The unmistakably mighty Celtic dynasty

Over the last nine seasons, coming off of three years of finishing second, Celtic has won every single Scottish Premiership title. Through the first five years of this ongoing dynasty, the focus was on the league, with the team picking up two domestic cups along the way. Then, in the 2016/17 season, The Bhoys smashed the league by going undefeated to claim 106 points from a possible 114 – scoring as many goals as they secured points. It also marked the team’s first domestic treble, which was followed by another treble.

In 2018/19, Celtic clinched a feat that even Usain Bolt no-longer has claim to: the mythical treble-treble. As detailed by The Telegraph, Celtic’s treble-treble had fans debating where on the list of all-time greats this current squad stands. This season, with the League Cup already secured, Celtic were ruled Premiership champions having secured a 13-point buffer by the 30-game mark. So, the dynasty currently reads as nine consecutive titles and a treble-treble.

Bayern expected to extent their Bundesliga dynasty

Having shaken off an upstart Borussia Dortmund that dominated from 2010 to 2012, Bayern Munich continue to add trophy after trophy to their haul. The 2012/13 campaign saw the Bavarian beasts land the treble of Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal (German Cup), and the Champions League – besting Borussia Dortmund on all fronts to reassert dominance.

Currently on a run of seven successive league titles, which include four seasons of landing the domestic double, Die Roten is going to need to go all-out to extend their already impressive dynasty. At the 27-game mark, Bayern only led their yellow-laden foes of Dortmund by four points. The William Hill sports betting favours the champions to retain their crown, but they’re not counting out the enigmatic Borussia Dortmund at 11/2 with the likes of Erling Håland scoring for fun.

Juventus have to hope ‘Sarri-ball’ sinks in to continue thedynasty

Under the stalwart strategies of Antonio Conte, Juventus scrapped their way to the Serie A title in 2011/12 after coming seventh in the two seasons before and having earned promotion from Serie B in 2006/07. Conte’s first season in charge won them the title, which was followed by two more Serie A triumphs. Then the reigns passed to Massimiliano Allegri for five seasons, yielding five more league titles, four Coppa Italia trophies, and two trips to the Champions League Final.

Continuing the dynasty is going to be a tall ask for a team visibly struggling to embrace the style of new manager Maurizio Sarri, known as ‘Sarri-ball.’ At the 26-game mark, Juventus sat just one point above a surging Lazio. Now, Serie A has been confirmed as set to be finished by 20 August. Sarri will hope that his team have been studying hard as they will need to hit the ground running to secure a ninth consecutive title – as Celtic have.

In Scotland, Germany, and Italy, teams are forging seemingly never-ending dynasties of domestic dominance. Celtic’s is secured for another season – gunning for the ten title streak next year – but Bayern Munich and Juventus have plenty of work ahead of them to extend their respective legacies.
