He has no time for no nonsense CB's like Benko, he like his CB's to basically be defensive center mids who "play out from the back". Something which Ajer is very capable of and very willing to do.

Ajer ain't going to Madrid, I think Everton or Leicester is far more likely. As @LectersLuncheon said Rodgers doesn't like an old school centre back, he wants to play from the back with the keeper. Ajer suits that brilliantly.

Totally agree, Benkovic hasn't been in the Croatia side since going to England, it is in his best interests. He won 7 trophies in 3 years, now he is on loan at Middlesbrough. How the mighty have fallen.

 

Maximise the cash and then look for a replacement..

I’m not against bringing Benkovic back, at 22 he could still be an excellent player.. should be able to pick up for £6m.

But any deal shouldn’t devalue the price for Ajer.

 

I don’t think we’ll be selling anyone before start of next season unless we need the money which we wont for a good while yet. Ajer needs another season under his belt, I think he’ll definitely be good enough for any top 6 team in the big leagues, but not just now.

How many centre backs were consistently good at 22? Very very few, he just needs the experience since he has the talent.
