    EX-Celtic hero Mikael Lustig looks set to have to leave Gent after less than a season after he was relegated to third-choice right-back.

    The ex-Hoops ace finally left Parkhead last summer after winning 16 trophies in an eight-year spell to forge a new career at the ambitious Belgian side.


    However, the 33-year-old has endured a miserable season in Belgium.

    The Swede was named in a league Flop Team of the Year after losing his place at full back to Alessio Castro-Montes and making just 14 league starts.

    And he's now dropped further down in their squad after Gent signed Sint-Truiden captain Jordan Botaka, who can also be used as a right-back.

    Now Lustig has been told he's got no future at the club after featuring in just two games this year for Gent


    The club were in second place in the league when the Belgian season was called.

    It's reported in Belgium that Lustig may now weigh up a return to his native Sweden.

    He hasn't played in his homeland since leaving Sundsvall in 2008 to sign for Rosenborg before moving to Glasgow.

    Probably time for him go move back to Sweden and wind down his playing career there. Hopefully he finds a good fit that works out well for him. Wherever he goes he deserves to bring down the curtain on his playing career in style somewhere.

    No chance. Great player for us but injuries and age have clearly taken their toll on him. He’s declined and a smaller league would be best for him.

    Wouldn't be playing every week good for frimpong to have him around would be similar to bauer play maybe 12 or 13 games

    MIKAEL LUSTIG has told Steven Gerrard he faces having the worst Rangers team EVER if Celtic win ten in a row.

    Lustig, who won eight titles at Parkhead before leaving last summer, rates Neil Lennon’s side as serial winners.


    He said: “I think there’s going to be more pressure on the Rangers players next season.

    “If they’re not going to win next year, they’re probably going to go down as the worst team ever in their history. It’s massive pressure for them.”




    In an interview with BT Sport, the former Sweden international added: “My heart is still with Celtic. It’s been a massive part of my life. The guys have been amazing this season.

    “Celtic know how to win. The players know how to win.


    To win a league title is a marathon. You’re not going to lift the trophy in December or January.”

    That’s fair enough mate, but the guys played a massive part in our success the past decade and would be considered by many as a club “Great”. Certainly not a legend but give the guy the respect he deserves.
