The scheme isn't only for businesses that "can't afford" to pay wages during lockdown, it's for any business that furloughs workers. If it was mean only for businesses that "can't afford" to pay then that would have been set up in the rules around the 80% payment.

Debunked? You’ve presented no sources about anything Coca Cola are doing so you’ve just made it up in your head, you can’t debunk an argument with hearsay mate, any rich football club in the public eye paying millions to players while furloughing non playing staff isn’t a good look especially when they could all work it out as a club and pay their own staff, it’s also garnered a massive public backlash away from this forum...Rich football clubs using furlough money is bad for the game

Why would I need sources to show that Coca Cola and Celtic both pay VAT, PAYE and CT?

Both are PLCs if you want to look at the remuneration of their employees it is public knowledge. There's nothing hearsay about it.

You keep making this point, "rich football club" we have cash just now that will sustain us for 5 months of trading and as yet do not know when we will next trade.

Would you call an indiviudal who had enough cash in the bank to cover 5 months worth of rent a "rich person"?

Would you say that they shouldn't apply for social welfare or help with their rent as they have a pool of money that will cover their rent in the short-term?

We really are not that rich, just wealthier than other clubs in the league. Liverpool got a negative backlash because they planned on spending millions in the transfer window. Also their TV money will be £150m, far more than we take in.

How much do their top earners get £5 to 10k a week? I wonder how they feel about going to 2.5k a month?

When did they actually say that? Theyve never once stated "if you csnt afford to pay your staff use this"

Football is becoming an easy target at this time in general..

    Understandably I guess..

It's going to look pretty crass when we or any other club announce a big money signing, any time soon.

I think we will see a quiet transfer window from most clubs. I wouldn't be surprised if we go about with loans mainly.

What happens if a staff member is over the £2500(?) a month cap on this scheme. Will the gov just cover 80 percent of the 2500 then what else you earn is upto the employer to decide?

Government will pay upto £2500 I believe, so 80% of roughly £3200 a month. Employer can then decide to top up a salary. I don't know about laws about topping up 1 staff member and not another.

The club aren’t obligated to sign up to the scheme.

    Which again is irrational.

We purchase an asset (player) as they bring a sporting advantage to us which then has economic benefits.

I don't see how it's any different to Coca Cola investing in new machinery upscale production, to make more money in the long-run.

Football is an easy target and the sensationalist reporting is whipping people up into a rage.

Most of our contracts are bonus based for the playing staff, right now they will be on greatly reduced wages while not playing.
