As this Pandemic continues its nasty march when do Clubs at different levels sort out the wages.
I hear the Championship in England are thinking about a £6000 week cap if this really carries on.
At what point when the big earners in the EPL who get more in 3 days that a Nurse gets in a year have their Wages checked.
Rugby Union Clubs in the Uk has already stated that a big wage cut is on the cards.
Most other Sport can only earn while they play. Here hundreds of Footballers could earn more in a week than many a Doctor in a year for doing next to nothing.

Blame the clubs not the players, they ran their unsustainable businesses to the ground.

Even so surely players in £200,000 week and more will give some away?

    Hope the EPL goes bust!!!

At the same point the clubs wasnt forced into paying it. Ofcourse they could now just pay 20% wage to them and the government would pay another £2500 a month to them and no rules are broken surely?

Anybody who has not read Naomi Klein's book Disaster Capitalism well now would be a really good time to do so. One of the key premises of the book is that when a major disaster occurs and this most definitely qualifies that is when major changes can and do occur. Milton's Freidman the originator of disaster capitalism that basically is just about enriching the rich and powerful and * everyone else to a greater or lesser extent says these are the times when the powerful make changes to make the economic and political structure work for them at the rests expense. There will be major changes to our economies when this all settles down we have to all be paying attention to make sure those changes are for the better and not just to further enrich those at the top.

Levy is cut from the same cloth as Lawwell, money above all else. So that's no surprise.

FYI, we have done the same. All non-playing staff are being furloughed.

    Spurs are a brassneck.

Disappointed to see Celtic do this too, although our income is miniscule.

I think you’ll hear soon enough that Celtic players are taking a delay or reduction... albeit irrelevant to the average man if your pay goes down from 80k£ a month to 60k£ a month.

I don’t think Harry Kane will be opting into that any time soon.

Disappointed on the face of it that we are using the furlough thing.
In essence I believe clubs at our level and above should be able to pay the lower staff easy enough, specially with players taking significant cuts.

However when you stop and think about it, if the players need to be taking pay cuts, then clearly a football club runs just like any other company,. Illa to pay, wages to pay, no income coming in.
We are all using savings at this time and have no idea how long this could last.
Could be merely one month, in which case Celtic could easily see it out, but equally it could be 6 months, which would be a massive hit if no one takes a cut.

What's good though, is that we are utilising the governments plan (rightly so as the club pays tax to that as well as we do) AND agreeing to pay the rest for the staff to remain at their 100% wage.

Would have loved to have came out this not needing to use the furlough thing, but let's be honest, when clubs like Barcelona need their players to take a 70% pay cut (yes still a significant wage they are getting), it shows you this whole thing is miles bigger than we could handle.

I don't see the problem with using the furlough facility.

This is about damage limitation, there is no point waiting till the business is at breaking point before adopting it. As you have pointed out (and which the Huns seem to forget when criticising us by saying taking money from the government we hate) we have paid millions upon millions of tax over the years. and if the option is available then why not use it.

At least we pay all our taxes owed :86:

But I agree that I sincerely hope that our players were the first ones to take a hit on salaries first.

Agree totally. Absolutely disgusting that employees had their wages reduced while these guys are earning fortunes a week. Hopefully the players do the right thing

And when you consider the average weekly wage of a Spurs first team is £70,000,which dwarfs the average Annual Wage of NHS Nurses as a shining example:50:
