Luca Connell

Sunderland are reportedly ‘in talks’ with Celtic’s Luca Connell over a loan move.

Sky Sports claim the Black Cats are negotiating a short term deal with the champions as they try to orchestrate a deal before the end of the window.

Barnsley are also interested in the midfielder.

Connell joined the Hoops from Bolton in the summer but the 18-year-old has not forced his way into Neil Lennon’s plans.

The Irishman is considered a long term prospect and could look for a move elsewhere to find some game time for the second half of the campaign.

 

Sunderland makes sense, Parkinson managed him at Bolton

 

Would be good to see him go out on loan and get regular game time the rest of the season.

 

Beginning to ramp up the performances , hopefully can get some game time between now and season end

Injury is the only thing that's stalled him..

Starting to turn it on by the sounds of thing's. Shame he never got the loan move right enough..

 

Should've went on loan in January..

Looks a very good player that could probably play with us now for a few game's to be honest..

 

Would have preferred he spent the rest of the season on Loan, getting 1st team football. Almost ready, but can only see him getting a sub appearance once the league is done.

But, like a lot of the youth players at the moment, he looks promising. Excited with this one

 

Lennon has a difficult proposition on his hands trying to fit in all the talent we have simmering under the surface and ensure they get their opportunity. Robertson seems a more sitting DM , connell more an all rounder and Henderson more a cam. Then throw Coffey and mcinroy into the mix and thats only central midfielders.

If we can get the league wrapped up pronto a very good opportunity to play Connell, Dembele and Henderson after the split

 

Hes got a wand of a left peg this boy..

I wouldn't be surprised if we kept him around the squad for this season as he can play a few positions the 6. Box to box 8 or left wing.....plus wing back..

Should've had a loan last season really somewhere..

 

This is where the league being finished early really didn't help the likes of Connell, Dembele, Welsh, Robertson as well as Soro, Bayo and Klimala as they could have all saw game time if we had won it with say 4 or 5 games left which would have allowed them to put down a market for the new season.

I know Connell was highly rated when we signed him from Bolton and was playing Championship football regularly towards the end of last year so would be good to see him get a chance in the preseason games. If he is unlikely to feature for us a loan to another SPL team for even the first 6 months of the season to see how he does could also be a good option.

 

Going out on loan makes sense for Connell. But I would say only until December. We can re-* then as to whether he stays out on loan at that point depending on what our own needs are and where our season is at come the turn of the year.

 

Would like to see him given a go at LWb if we go with 3 at the back.

Dunno if he has the pace tho?

 

What a waste of a player that would be

 

Very hard for any of the likes of O'Connor, connell, afolabi to make an input at the moment really. In fairness to Robertson and Welsh they have made that step to being constantly around the first team. When you see knight (derby) O'Shea (West brom) molumby (Millwall) idah (Norwich) and Connolly (Brighton) making such progress this year with their clubs I'm sure it's frustrating for the likes of connell and oconnor who are the same u21 group to be still well and firmly with the reserves

A waste of a player would be having him sit about waiting for a chance at centre mid. No youngster is breaking into that 3. Soro cost £2m and he'll do well to break into it.

The 2 options at LWb arnt good enough so if this boy is as good as they say and that's one of the positions he can play why not play him there

 

That’s like when we played cal there, he’s not a LB first and foremost so it’s a waste of him as a player. I agree we’re not using him, loan him out. But playing him at LWB ain’t the option
