A thought Boyata was pretty solid defensively, better than Ajer at this stage in his carrer.

how would you even quantify that?
Ajer has shown himself to be a solid centre back for us over two seasons. He has endured what is probably best described as a prolonged dip in form. We havent had the squad to be able to drop him or rest him. He doesnt become a bad player overnight. Theres been a lot of rotation in the positions around him. Hayes, taylor, boli, julien, jozo, el hamed, frimpong, beur.. its unsettling but he has shown the player he is and he will refind his form is shown support and backing.

Not on about 21 yo Boyata am taking about Celtic Boyata.

And it can be quantified thru defensive performances. Boyata doesn’t have the footballing ability or potential of Ajer. His dodgy moments came from trying to play out the back. If we had Boyata now I think he’d be playing alongside Jullien until Ajer gets out his wee rutt. Looks a lot more comfortable at right back than his actual position at the moment.

I do think he would be a brilliant sweeper just sitting in front of the defence and let him makes his runs up the pitch .

Regardless, it's still a big drawback for us. * StMirren managed to work out that if they marked every player except Boyata he would eventually give them a chance at goal.

We dominate games so regularly that our defenders see a lot of the ball and start plenty of our attacks - something Ajer exceeds at.

Could say the same about playing a forward tight to Ajer. Better player or better defender.

Boyata did have a few stinkers but a think his unpopularity didn’t reflect his performances.

Could argue the same of Ajer and his recent criticism. Overall I'd rather have Ajer here making mistakes as a young guy who's learning than Boyata who missed a huge chunk of development rotting away in man city's reserves.

As I've always said about him it's easy to forget hes only 21.

Hes been playing 1st team football since he was 16 aye but doesnt mean he isnt still developing.

A lot of that came from the apparent refusal to play in a qualifier.

Think he would be class on the right side of a back 3. No idea why lennon keeps persisting with him as the left side centre half. He is one of the most one footed players I’ve ever seen.

Still puzzles me, why we play him on the left side of a back 2 or 3..so much more comfortable on the right.

Jullien can play on the left tho, seems more two footed than Ajer..

When Elhamed comes back that back 3 will be very good indeed..
