SPORT has the impact to change lives, boosting physical and mental health, improving social inclusion, and building confidence. The Inspiring Sport project, a collaboration between Celtic FC Foundation and Scottish Disability Sport, aims to provide sporting activities and opportunities to young people and adults with Physical, Learning and Sensory Impairments which will enhance lives and eliminate social exclusion.

Celtic FC Foundation have worked in partnership with Scottish Disability Sport since 2013, with both charities aligning to a similar ethos and outcomes. Throughout the duration of the project, young people and adults from all over Scotland have benefitted enormously from the various activities and events provided.

The Inspiring Sport project features a series of Parasport events which specifically target young people with physical and sensory impairments who attend mainstream education, giving them the chance to participate in a variety of sports, which will lead to engaging with local sports clubs and sessions.

The Parasport Festivals take place across Scotland with the latest being held in the Peak Sports Complex in Stirling. Some 42 pupils from across central Scotland participated in the sports of Wheelchair Curling, Badminton, Race Running, Athletics, Boccia, Swimming, Powerchair Football, Climbing and a demonstration and talk from Para-Sailor, Rory McKinna. Governing bodies of Sport, Active Schools, Education, Local Authorities and Sports clubs contributed to the success of the event with coaching and volunteer support.

The forthcoming Parasport events taking place in March, will be held in the West of Scotland, Tayside and the East of Scotland. If you know a young person aged between five and 18 years of age, with a physical or sensory impairment and who attends a mainstream school, please contact Scottish Disability Sport admin@scottishdisabilitysport.com or call 0131 317 1130 for further information.
