I find that far more distasteful than using a word that has, for many people, become detached from its original meaning. There is no ambiguity about the speaker's intention there.

    It’s barely worth discussing.

That's the word banned on the rules. Obviously other words need to be added to it despite it being obvious they are all equally offensive.

Words like that especially the one you used are ingrained in our minds, so easy to let it slip out. Bringing up Harvey Price is a direct, calculated insult and is far more offensive. Both shouldn't be said, but your point is right.

I was given an instant ban too, no warning.

If you don't want to discuss it then don't bother posting a gif. I'm the one that was told to grow up by a staff member, yet I'm the one actually trying to have a discussion about something that's pretty relevant these days.

Language is a living thing. New words are born and old words die. It's bigger than you, me, and TalkCeltic.

Society decides... and it has decided that the word you used is unacceptable in the context of how you used it. There's not really much more discussion to be had regarding that particular incident.

I do, however, get concerned about censorship when it relates to things like blanket bans on links to commercially available national newspapers though. We're all big and ugly enough to decide for ourselves on what 'news' stories have substance and which are dogshit. I find this one especially embarrassing as (not so long ago) we were calling out the Zombie Hoardes for doing likewise.

Yeh, this isn't about my incident. I was wrong and I've made that clear.

    It's the bigger picture.

I can understand the ban on newspaper links because we don't want to give them any kind of traffic on their site or any kind of recognition as they are scum. There shouldn't be bans though.

It's a forum at the end of the day so the rules are set by the site owner and you can either abide by them or decide not to come on.

You might have a fair point on the consistency of the rules being applied but the mods are volunteers that are giving up their own time to help the site run as it should, they can't see every post and are reliant on offensive posts being reported.

I've had my fair share of bans so I'm in no position to lecture anyone on language, I think with these things context is always important. I make self-depreciating jokes and jokes to others that might seem offensive if you didn't understand the context they were meant in.

Offence - presumed or actual - is subjective so ultimately it's down to the mods to make a judgement call, if you disagree with it then you'd be best giving them a PM and putting across your perspective...but if I get retrospective bans from here on in then I'll know it's you that's been a grass :84:

Society didn’t decide the mods did, if you search the word on the forum it’s been used plenty of times by several members over the course of several years

It’s only now the mods are banning people for it.

He’s not arguing the word should be allowed either, the problem is mods making up rules whenever they want and banning people or giving them warnings.

Op has been on the forum for 12 years, only recently the mods have decided to ban certain words.

If their reason for banning it is that it is offensive to members then why do they allow homophobia and other things that are offensive.

Consistency and clear announcement of rules isn’t being practiced.

They offered me the chance to PM them and before I could I got banned :giggle1: If people are saying this thread will be closed it's pretty obvious they don't want to talk about it. Still haven't heard from them! I get they are volunteering but if they can't be consistent then there's no point in them being there. I'd also just rather they didn't remove the word from the post, just leaves it open for interpretation now.

Hahahaha, I'm definitely going to search a few words and report all the posts :fear: Nah better not because I'll end up getting myself banned. Just frustrating that it's not consistent. I guarantee it wasn't someone who was offended that reported it, it'll of been the person it was aimed at. Once he saw someone get offended, he got on his high horse and got the last laugh.

    Spot on post though.

MacEwan didn’t use that word btw which makes this even more of a farce.

I'm not asking ya to say it dafty . I'm looking the link to the section where it has actually words that can't be said or is it words that can discriminate and it's open for interruption to know it's a banned word or not?

    Edit! Seen post above
