Just on SSN there that it will start of November 21st and finish on the 18th of December.

Will be mental watching the World Cup final a week before Christmas :smiley-laughing002: what a shambles of a decision to have it there and at that time of year as well.

I was in Qatar last week and Doha still has a lot of development required to make it a decent place for the tourist fans that will travel for the tournament. There's almost nothing worth seeing or doing there other than the Islamic art museum. Most of the buildings there are ministry of interior, ministry of public health and so on type government buildings.

Shambles of a decision no matter what time of year it's played. Corrupt as *.

Disgraceful that this is actually going to happen.

Any football clubs that pay wages for stars to go out and play in that farce should have the balls to take a stance collectively. They should get together and stage a boycott to send a message to FIFA that they will not bow down to this nonsense.

An old thread, but a relevant bump.

Has anyone been watching the world athletics championships from Qatar? Me neither.

Just seen this on the news. They are complaining about stadiums being empty.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/athletics/49872232

It really is stupid to pick places like Qatar for major sporting events.

To be a little fair, even during the Olympics and the lesser events/not the finals, then the stadiums can be pretty empty as well.
This isn't the Olympics so naturally the interest is less, and again more so with it being in Qatar.

But I think normally, unless we are talking the 100m sprint event, these would be expected to be poorly attended.

It wasn’t ‘picked ‘. Qatar bought its way in. A wealthy corrupt stAte dealing with corrupt sporting bodies like IOC and FIFA will always get its way.

No compromise has been too great to accommodate this farce of a tournament.

The bigger scandal shouldn’t be that it takes place there.... but that so many nations will be desperate to compete there. I have little faith in any of them exercising a sense of moral responsibility as there are no ethics in football. We will get some nonsense from The English FA (at best) that it’s better to take part and contribute to the cause on the pitch than to boycott through any ethical code.

That was the stance in Russia. Royal family decline to attend due to the diplomatic situation (nerve agents, spies etc) .. but the good old FA and England team MUST show what they’re made of.

How I would love it for Scotland to actually qualify ... and then tell FIFA and Qatar to ram it!

The thousands of Bangladeshis, Nepalese, Sri Lankan’s etc who died in appalling working and living conditions (and continue to die) to build the infrastructure for an event that shouldn’t ever have been planned is a shame on the whole football world.
It should be more than enough for any human with a conscience (never mind just football fans) to decide against any form of participation whether as official, player, travelling fan or tv viewer.

Been watching bits of it and have to say it takes a lot away from it when the stadiums half empty or worse.

I think the football will be different with it being a more popular sport.

It is an offence to drink alcohol or be drunk in public in Quatar.......wonder how they're gonna stop public drinking with all the fans there or will they have designated areas for drinking ??

I've been to 4 World Cups but you'd have to pay me to go to this one. The empty stadium just now at the athletics world championships is what we can expect in Qatar and fans make world cups

Aye I think I’ve read somewhere that there will be designated drinking zones and what have you. * pathetic having it there in the first place. I hope it’s a failure from start to finish tbh maybe it will go to somewhere more deserving in the future.

Should be in Europe again in 2030

I really dont understand how any football fan will want to go to this. Even without caring about Qatar being a country where slavery is legal, women are subhuman and who openly sponsors terrorism, this is an expensive and boring as * place, with terrible weather, nothing interesting, no booze, no girls.
