Jeremie Frimpong admits he cannot wait to prove his worth at Celtic after sealing his deadline day switch from Manchester City.

The 18-year-old has penned a four-year deal after turning heads in City's academy and has lifted the lid on his chat with Neil Lennon hours before he made the move to Parkhead.

Celtic announced the signing of Greg Taylor and his arrival was quickly followed by the news the Dutch defender had agreed terms with the Premiership champions.

Frimpong insists he's ready to make an instant impact in Glasgow and received a pre-signing boost after talking with the Hoops boss.

He told Celtic TV: “The manager phoned me today and told me that he believes in me and he thinks that what I can do will be good for the team.

“That’s really good to hear, and I’m going to try my best to get in the squad and help them to win things.

“My target is to get as many games as I can, to win everything for the team And I’ll give it my all.

Frimpong admits he's familiar with his new team but concedes he still had to do some brushing up ahead of his big move to Glasgow.

He added: "We played Celtic’s Under-23s and it wasn’t long after that I found out Celtic were interested in signing me,” he explained. “That was incredible, and as soon as I heard, I was excited and I wanted to take this opportunity.

“I started going on YouTube to watch Celtic, and when they were on TV, I watched the games. I watched Sunday’s match against Rangers. What a game! Celtic were brilliant and deserved to win.

“Now I can’t wait to play at Celtic Park in front of the fans. Hopefully when I get on the pitch and do something good, I’ll hear the noise for me.”

Might see first team action as he’s a RB but we’ve got El hamed and Bauer in that position.
Also only 18 so not a seasoned pro, so even more unlikely to feature in any significant games.
Only plus is I’d imagine he’s ahead of Ralston.
Also presuming NL doesn’t trust Ralston with this purchase.
It’s another one of those signings on deadline day for the club to announce just so they can say they brought players in, but will have very little impact on first team affairs. So nothing but an anticlimax tbh.
Same as that O’Connell boy from Man U.

5 full-backs in 1 window! I doubt we’ve signed that many over the previous 3 windows. Great on the one hand, bit Man City-esque on the other but...

Maybe Abd Elhamed to CB? Doubt it with O’Connor coming in though, unless Lenny’s thinking 3 at the back.

I do agree that they wont immediately see first team action but in the same instance they wont have came here from two big sides without some sort of guarantee that they will be fast tracked a lot sooner IMO.

O'Connor especially is really highly rated and has already been in and around the Irish senior squad.

Manchester City inserted a number of clauses into Celtic's deal for young defender Jeremie Frimpong.

The 18-year-old secured a permanent move to the SPL champions on Mondayafter spending half of his life with the Blues in their academy . Frimpong impressed last season as the Under-18s made it to the FA Youth Cup final and the Under-21s reached the quarter-finals of the Checkatrade Trophy but interest from Neil Lennon proved too much for him to turn down.

Celtic have paid an initial £350,000 for Frimpong and there are also up to £650,000 in potential payments which would take the total sum up to £1m. City will also receive 30 per cent of any fee should Celtic sell the youngster in future, but there is no buyback clause in the deal.

Reacting to the switch, Frimpong said: "I joined Man City as a nine-year old; I have come a long way but the ride has been amazing! There have been some highs and some lows but I have always given my best for this shirt.

"I feel privileged to have been part of such club. Teammates, coaches, staff and fans have always been amazing to me and I will never be able to repay them! Came as a boy, leave as a man. Man City will always be in my heart!"
