Tam McManus: David Turnbull has a small problem with his knee that requires an op (tidy up). Be out for 10-12 weeks. That’s it. Some of the * I have heard about him on here is poor & embarrassing. Hurtful rumours about the kid. The deal will 100% still go through.

This * about at the start has done nothing but put a split in the negotiation camps. Can’t say I’m disappointed if this doesn’t go through but wish no ill on the lad and his career. I was of the opinion that the club were right to keep the fans in the loop with the social media statement and still do. But all this afters has shown the players agency and Celtic to be naive in announcing and getting the photos done ahead of him signing.

I don’t think 8-12 weeks out should scupper a deal but it definitely affects value. You’re talking about a guy not really getting up to speed until Christmas time, a period over which we’re paying his medical costs and (extortionate) wages.

Hope it all works out though as I would like to see him brought in, and if it doesn’t you still don’t want to see a guys career impacted by injury.

So, if the reports are true, he could be out for 3 months, then add to that getting match fit ext sound longer than 3 months to me.

Why the * would any team in their right mind sign him on that? We need players to be ready from the get go.

If what is being reported is true then we need to 100% pull the plug on this or renegotiate the fee and wages for much less.

The club can’t afford to be buying players for 3.25 million and handing them good wages and do * all for the whole first part of the season.

Mind you Compper has been here for a while he needs company.

He's regarded as possibly the most promising prospect Scotland has produced in recent years, so if he does the business for us for an extended period of time, or leaves after a few years for a few times the amount we paid, it's worth it for me.

He will be out until middle of Champions League Group stages which includes recovery time plus time to get match fit.

We need to pull the plug on this one, a 19 yr old should be sailing thru the medical, clearly there is a problem, we really cannot afford to waste anymore time on this.

Celtic must be doing all they can to still make this happen or it would have been announced by now that the transfer has been cancelled.

Surely the most sensible thing to do would be to try and negotiate some sort of deal to bring him in in january if the operation is a success

No way is this the first time the player, Motherwell or his agent were made aware of an issue with his knee. You dont need an op that keeps you out of action in a critical area like your knee without some prior warning signs. Someone or everyone has been hoping this would go unnoticed. Might explain some of the bluster early doors.

And McManus can ram it. I don't know what his relationship is with the player or his representatives but a knee op on a player you're about to spend 3 million quid on & pay 500k a year in wages is not an insignificant issue. Especially as there is no guarantee now that his knee will not breakdown again. Celtic are taking a significant risk if they go ahead.

How could he have played for them without any issues, though? A * knee hurts- I saw my landlord: he can't walk normally and is on painkillers often.

Could be a wee twinge now and then. Taking pain killers, a certain movement might give him grief. Doesnt necessarily mean it was something he couldn't play through but obviously something that requires attention and would probably progressively get worse and worse. I play 5s with alot of pain in my knees. Still playable but hurts like *, sometimes during the game, sometimes the day after. Problem started when I was late teens and played at a decent level but you just played through it then, has gotten progressively worse until I was in my 20's and I was really struggling. Nowadays I would prob have been sent for an op.
