“I was a Celtic supporter, a Celtic player, it’s been my life... I’ve really enjoyed my life, when I look back I couldn’t ask for any more.“
    John Clark (2014)

He was a constant in the side, and played a total of 140 consecutive matches between April 1965 and September 1967. So he was ever present in all the matches throughout the high-mark season of 1966-67. Only Tommy Gemmell was ever-present in that glorious season too.

"Only Willie Maley has given more years to Celtic in terms of length of service. A truly remarkable Celtic man whom more should recognise for all the time and effort he has put into the club without asking for anything in return."

Along with Big Billy, John Clark was my favourite player when I was young. I still tell the tale of him patting me on the head when my father took me up to get autographs.

The Celtic Song ... There can be only one !
I recall the story of one of our new signings a few years back, speaking to JC, when he was our kit man. The new guy (can't remember who it was) ask's. "Did you ever play football yourself, when you where younger John"?

JC promptly walks him down to the trophy room and points to the big cup... Tells the new Bhoy. When you win that, come back and ask me again!

A real gentleman, he was my next door neighbour during the late 60s early 70s.

John Clark & Davie Provan in a lift in New
York (about 1980 I believe) go up few flights,
doors open, Pele walks in. Provan canny believe
it, JC remains cool as a cucumber. Pele turns
round, clocks JC, says, "Scotland, Hampden,
1965, you very good player" JC gently nods.
Next floor Pele gets out, says farewell. Lift
door closes, Provan goes mad, JC still
completely unfazed turns to Provan and says -
    "who the * was that?"
