Missed training today apparently

LEIGH GRIFFITHS missed Celtic training today ahead of their Premiership clash with Hibs.

Hoops No2 Chris Davies yesterday said the striker – who controversially pulled out of Scotland’s games against Israel and Portugal – was doing extra training to build up his fitness.

But SunSport Online understands the 28-year-old was absent from this morning’s session.

It’s unclear if he will be ready to face his former club at Celtic Park tomorrow.

Griffiths – who struggled with injury last season – dropped out of Alex McLeish’s squad last Monday to focus on getting himself match-fit.

Several pundits claimed he was “in a huff” because he wasn’t going to start the Israel match while others, including Bhoys captain Scott Brown and ex-Celt Gary Caldwell, defended his decision.


The ex-Hibees, Dundee and Wolves forward told SunSport he has NOT turned his back on the national team.

Ex-Scotland gaffer Gordon Strachan this week called Griffiths a “quirky character” who has worked hard to transform his game.

 

That was superb.

 

BR: “Leigh Griffiths made the right decision. If you want to play for Scotland and a club like Celtic you have to be physically right. He wants to do himself justice on the field.”

 

If it’s his calf then it’s beginning to get ridiculous.

We need a 3rd striker, whatever Griff is doing it aint helping.

He is fit. Rodgers literally said everyone in the squad has come back fit and ready to play but Griffiths has an illness

 

Brendan Rodgers has revealed Leigh Griffiths is ill but could still play for Celticagainst Hibs on Saturday

The striker missed training on Friday after pulling out of the Scotland squad due to fitness issues.


But Rodgers insists the striker got it spot on by withdrawing, despite the controversy surrounding his decision.

Rodgers said: "For me it was the right decision to make, purely on the basis of, if you want to be involved in the top level of sport and play internationally and for a top club, unless you are physically fit you have no business being on the pitch to play.


That is very important. If you are going to play for your country or play for a top club like Celtic you have to be physically right going on to the field otherwise you don't do yourself justice or your team-mates and your support.


"Our supporters live their life for this club, the very least they expect from players going on to the field is that they are fit.

"Leigh was brave enough to at least think that he wasn't at the right level to help his country and very importantly help Celtic.


Unfortunately he has been ill and we will have to see if he is available for tomorrow but the message he sent was he wanted to ensure, like we have always said to the players, that you have to be physically right."

It appears Leigh Griffiths, an extremely talented Celtic player, has disappeared off Celtic’s radar at Lennoxtown since Monday and not in the hurried mood to contact anyone. Sad to report such news!

Maybe he’s no been feeling well.
