Looking for 1 for my 11 year old son for his Christmas. He spends alot of time on you tube and farting about online. He's just started high school so looking for something that will help him with his studies for the next couple of years. In terms of gaming he's got xbox1, switch, 3ds xl and nes and supernes mini's and mini mega drive so I don't think gaming is high in priorities for the laptop.

What I don't understand is processors and would a Chromebook be decent for him? And also decent retailers for a purchase, I'm finding it all to confusing, help. Got a budget of between 3 and 4 hundred. Thanks

Www.pcspecialist.co.uk is good site and you’ll be able to configure a laptop to suit your budget.

With regards to processors, look for one with an Intel i5 processor and 4GB or more, of RAM.

Those specs will be more than enough for what he’ll use it for. An i3 processor would do the job too, but it’ll just be slightly slower than the i5. The higher the GHz the processor has, the faster it’ll be. Any processor that has 2.5GHz or more processing speed will be sufficient.

If possible, try to get one with more than 4GB RAM, as that’ll allow it to run more smoothly when he has multiple programs running.

The likes of Dell, Amazon are worth looking at too, to compare prices.

    Chromebook's are * mate, honestly.

If it's only for * about on youtube and doing whatever for school, just get him a notebook oota tesco or something for anywhere between £150-250.

Also a chromebook or notebook type laptop wont have a disk drive (somewhere to put in a disk or cd) so only take wee usb drives.

If you get a laptop like this and need to use discs, you can always get an external disc drive that plugs in via USB.

Ach, disks are becoming a thing of the past mate.

Even for school work and stuff now it's all on usb's and whatnot.

I usually use ebuyer.com as they normally have some decent stuff on sale, they do free delivery, and the reviews on there are quite trustworthy.

Amazon is normally good as well as if you ever have problems with something off there you can usually get a refund/replacement no questions asked. I've heard of people getting refunds for things off amazon years after they bought them.

Go onto one of the sites, explain what you will be wanting to use it for, get them to advise you of the best spec...

Then go on groupon or some other site and get a better deal. I got a Lenovo laptop for 149 quid off Groupon. Does everything I need.

If he uses photoshop a lot, get as much RAM as possible. 8GB or more.

ask your boy, he'll know more about them than you.
even if it's supposed to be a surprise, better to let him pick his own.
and on the plus side, tell him if he dosen't do well in school he's getting hee haw

Dell, i5 processor, 8GB RAM and 1Tb HD minimum. Will be top end of your budget but will last longest, most robust and has best warranties.

I go between eBuyer for admin stuff and a guy that sells refurbs for engineers in work.
