Would better players in the positions we have * ones help?

Better putting a wardrobe and a fridge at the 18 yard box than playing hendry and simunovic

Lustigs been on the decline for years and it’s finally cost us

It depends on who the signings are. Everyone says we need new CB's but we actually signed 2 in January. Trouble is it was Compper and Hendry. It's QUALITY signings that make a difference. Also we don't know how to defend as a team, as a unit.
That should have been taken care of by now and will only come with time and practice. It doesn't help that we have a different defensive line-up nearly every game. Stability, awareness, a desire to win the ball or to clear it and hard work are what makes a good, solid defence and IMO we don't have any of those things.

    100% yes.

We should have strengthened but we didn’t and it’s cost us 40 million and if we don’t do it in the next 3 weeks it will cost us another 40 million next season as well.

I dont think they would have as much of of a difference as people think. Only if we were able to bring in a real european quality defender with experience, who can marshall the defence, then I would have the confidence that they can make a difference.

We are all over the place at long diagonals, Gordon runs out into no mans land, we let balls bounce in the box, players let the ball run across them into dangerous areas, Gordon puts us under pressure needlessly with his kicking.

These are basic af errors that we continue to make and are not being addressed. The root of the problem is systemic.

a leader with character at the back would definately have helped, lawell allowed us to go into these champions league qualifiers without a needed defence and its not like we didnt know this, EVERYONE knew this

If the new signings had been quality defenders then yeah they probably would have made the difference.

if we threw in denayer and arzani at the last minute then no it wouldn't have a made a positive impact. If we signed our targets (if we had any apart from Izaguirre and McGinn) at the start of window and spent decent money on improving the defence then of course.
