If it’s true we’ve matched the bid and personal terms and McGinn chooses * Villa over us, I hope he gets relegated with villa

We’ll see how much of a reported Celtic man he is now. Villa! Don’t make me laugh. Absolutely no mark *

Some of youse have extreme Celtic tinted goggles on ffs, villa are a big team , not as big as us but still the fact people are putting them down is a tad hypocritical considering many of youse would be crying your eyes out when English fans say we ain't a big team or in a pub league ect. Villa have won the European cup same as us and have a decent fan base so don't laugh too hard at them being linked.

Also while I don't think they'll go up there's a chance thy good, which means a better standard and more money for Mcginn in the premier league and potentially a big move, the kid Owes us absolutely nothing Celtic fan or not and the fact it's taken us to wait until Villa have come in for him to actually match a bid for him is a pisstske and will probably Be * him off as well.

Either way I personally couldn't give a * if we got him player wise don't think he's that good, but the fact Rodgers has wanted him so long and Wev taken the * like this is a disgrace from our board.

ALso people getting upset about petrie not accepting our bid, end of day we are hibs domestic rivals, why would he want to make US stronger?

He'll choose Villa over Celtic, and the deal will be completed in the next 24/48 hours.

They are a big club, but much of that is in the past and they have not been in Europe in ages. While Celtic have the European Cup over 50 years ago, which is the club's biggest achievement we have been in Europe constantly since then and carried on winning trophies.

I do believe if we have to give him £23k a week salary to come here then sod it, for that money he would be one of our highest earners I would imagine and for that money I would want a player who is playing 35 games a season, I don't think he will.
To be honest I think he will hinder our squad massively, just look at the below

    Now let's look at McGinn
    upload_2018-8-8_10-19-57.png
He takes the whole sexiness factor about our team away.

Hopefully the rumours of the Villa deal being done is true.

Absolutely mental if we’ve offered him 23k a week.

Former St Mirren chairman saying it's done.

Tbh I can't say I'm disappointed to be missing out on McGinn, I stand by what I said about him earlier in the thread. However, John McGinn's abilities are not really the issue at this point.

Just look at how this whole thing was handled. What does it actually say about Lawwell who is often portrayed by many within our own support as some kind of astute, formidable negotiator when he can't even close the deal for a completely affordable player from Hibernian?

Which begs the question: If he can't close the deal for McGinn what other deals have fallen through because of his incompetence? The McGinn farce is merely emblematic of a larger and much more concerning problem IMO.

And what's worse, even if the McGinn deal were to materialise at the last minute, it's arguable that we'd actually be in a worse position than had he not signed. For if we're forced into paying him 23k in wages that would certainly offset any supposed 'saving' that was supposed to be made by bidding low in the first instance (which got us into this protracted mess) and moreover, it would mean that all future contract negotiations with our own players and potential new players would be starting from a more difficult position - in that we'd be under pressure to offer similar wages or better.

But aye, Lawwell's the real deal. :52:

I honestly don't care about McGinn, I think he is decent but it's not the end of the world and will not let this get in the way of my support. Yeah we have probably lost players by haggling, but if we went for every player without haggling then we would probably be skint. Also you can't give a manager everything they want, Rodgers will know that he can't have everything and would have joined knowing how the board are within the transfer window.

Well if he is gone and there's no chance of him being here the board have no choice but to back Brendan going forward with signings now imo.

I think we need to keep BR happy, if it’s something he wants, and it’s been our own stupidity that’s even got us here, we do what Brendan wants.

The moneys available, if we * him about he won’t be here much longer.

Not gonna lose sleep over McGinn but the manager wanted him and the deal should’ve been done months ago, ridiculous we were reduced to throwing mad wages at him in a panic because another club are about to get him, * hour all round. Hopefully this combined with Rodgers comments means we’ll get our other targets in quickly.

25m for him , he isn't a bad player but again potential not any better than our top prospects such as Ntcham,Edouard,Dembele and Tierney.
