    23k per week :56:

Hopefully we have put in a bid however and get it done.

So McGinn is earmarked to take over from a £40million player at Villa, no pressure there then.

Villa sel the player for £40 mill and buy replacement for £3 mill.

    Welcome to Celtic John

Don’t agree with the Wage figure
What’s the chances of that upsetting the dress Room in a way , the fee to hibs seems fair personally would have preferred the wage to be round about the 15 mark and don’t see why John wouldn’t accept that

He’d better be worth all this.

If we’ve matched the offer, and he opts for Aston Villa, no one can point the finger at Celtic. It’d be an easy decision for any of us.

Not true. Had we not tried to lowball Hibs, everything would have been finalized by now. Chances are that McGinn would have asked for lower wages as well.

That’s not my point. McGinn now has a straight choice between Aston Villa and Celtic. If he opts for the former, he had no intention of coming here.

I’m sure people will come out with nonsense about Celtic not doing enough to show him that he was wanted, but if you or I had the chance to sign for Celtic, we would do so in a heartbeat.

Again, not true. If we had made a £2.75m offer to Hibs (let's say) a week ago, chances are that McGinn would have been a Celtic player by now.

    Are you being deliberately obtuse?

If McGinn has two contracts on the table, one from Aston Villa and one from Celtic, commensurate in every detail, and he opts to join Aston Villa, that is not Celtic’s fault.

If he is inclined to join an English Championship club instead of Celtic now, he would have waited until the English window drew to a close before making his decision regardless.

He is supposed to be a diehard Celtic supporter, so it should be an easy decision for him to make.

No one can possibly know that. All we know is that a week ago Villa's offer was not on the table.

The way I see it, if we fail to sign McGinn it's 100% our fault (Lawwell trying to lowball Hibs). We should have met Hibs' valuation way sooner. At the end of the day, £2.75 is a reasonable price for McGinn.

    Assuming

    - we had met Hibs valuation (let's say) a month ago
    - McGinn had asked for time to weigh his options

then it wouldn't have been Celtic's fault. That's not the case though.

If we matched Villa's wages, maybe, but I just cant see it. £23k p/w for a player one year out the Championship does not sound like Lawwell.

If we are matching that kind of money, it's flies in the face of Lawwell and his stance over the price tag, only way I could ever see it happening is if Rodgers has went tonto behind the scenes. Still hard to imagine.

    Not strictly true either.

With Hibs having only accepted the bid from Villa, he may have been swayed with the facilities Villa have along with the finances and the pitch Steve Bruce may have given him.

A player, like a worker, needs to feel wanted and valued and he might have felt that Celtic simply didnt want him enough.

It might be black and white in your head as a Celtic fan, but who is to say he is as big of a die hard as you?

He would have had agents in his ear promising him all the riches of arabia if he was able to become a success at Villa. And Steve Bruce might have been telling him he will play more games with them etc.

Hibs were the ones telling the press they were only going to sell for 3-4m.

The fact they’ve let McGinn go down there without even having a bid put in while running to the press and leaking our bids as soon as they’re put in says it all.

Now we’ve supposedly got a bid of under £3m accepted because that’s the only offer they got from England? This is Hibs desperately trying to avoid him coming here. Nothing more.

Well the difference being here that Villa came in with one concrete bid that was accepted today and we made two bids in the space of the last ten days which were not.

So if we had made an acceptable bid, we could have wrapped the transfer up before the concrete offer from Villa and before JM put in two very good performances vs Tripolis and Motherwell- probably adding further interest.

As BR stated in his interview, he has wanted him for months. The deal should have been done at the open of the window, providing time for him to train and play with the squad in pre season.

In my opinion, Lawell new BR wanted him, but thought that he could either
    A. Wait until the window drew to a close and bank on Hibs accepting less in fear of losing him for free in January.
    B. Sign him on a pre contract in January
    Or
    C. Sign him on a pre contract and then agree a deal with Hibs where he would move for a bargain fee (a la the GMS deal from Dundee Utd).

Just a theory but i think a few were banking that we would have a clear run on him, but Villa scuppered that and forced our hand.
