I was looking out my living room window last night just before the sun went down. The sky was a stunning colour of red. It was beautiful, but what was even more beautiful was the way the redness was reflecting off the Lesser Black Back and Herring Gulls as they were flying around. It made look as if they were red. It was stunning.

Rainfall is pretty low at the moment so try and put a bowl of water day out for thirsty critters in your garden changing it for day and night:84:

I've been dived by a Black Headed Gull. As much as I love Gulls, it was fukin' scary as it got a bit too close for comfort.

Shivering just thinking about it mate. Is there a nicer looking Sea Bird than the Gannet? You're a lucky man, Cidermaster, having such a great patch. Mine's is on the banks of the River Clyde. I've seen some great things, but I don't see sea birds.

Look out for Mediterranean Gulls good pal, stunning birds and being seen more and more north of the border though still somewhat scarce but odd ones are seen in your area, especially among Black Headed and Common Gull flocks:50:

I've seen the occasional Mediterranean Gull on the Clyde. There's a wee gem of a place quite near me called Hogganfield Loch. Not massive, but the loch is a big enough. Through the years, my daughter and I have seen Mediterranean Gulls and a couple of Iceland Gulls. It's a great place to get really close to the birds, like Greylag Geese, Goosander, the occasional Merganser,,Ruddy Ducks in Autumn and Whooper Swans in Winter. It's got all the usual birds, like Mallards, Coots , Moorhens etc. The rarest bird we ever seen was a Black Tern. I only got a glimpse, but my daughter had a great sighting.
