Thought right after he scored that equaliser up at Pittodrie that he was going be another Di Canio for us. Didnt quite work out just as good as that.....but he was Celtic through and through and thats all that mattered. AC Milan signed him for £10m at one point....and he was a youngster at the time....so he must have been really highly thought of

There was never any doubt about his qualities as a player, when he first broke onto the scene he looked excellent. Unfortunately though, he didn’t fit Strachan’s defensive system very well, and from what I remember, he was brought in to offer a similar approach to Lennon, which was always going to be a struggle.

I think Donati would have been utilised as a much better player in a Rodgers or Lennon team rather than a Strachan team.

Yip. Strachan was trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. It was obvious that the boy had a good football brain but more often than not the game passed him by due to WGS setup.

Ditto for Jarosik, Gravesen and even nakamura for me.

I still cant work out why Gravesen was not a success at Celtic. I know he was a total nut-job....but as a player....he tore apart the English Prem for Everton....he looked immense in that league. Then signing with Real....you dont get signed for them for no reason.

THink him and Strachan fell out. But all in all he should have destroyed everything in front of him in the SPL

He had absolute zero tactical discipline and WGS was too stubborn to change his formula for him. Which might have been a good thing, we did get into the last 16 that year. Still rather annoying but.

Think it was Gravesen who said the latter half of his career he thinks people mistook him for Lee Carsley.

I think Tommy G decided he was on a wind down after a few months in the hoops. Remember being excited at Freddy Ljunberg joining. Knew he’d had a serious injury but at 32 I thought we’d get 3 years. * barely touched a ball. So gutted to see such a talented guy do * all for us.

FORMER Celtic and Milan star Massimo Donati has thrown his hat into the ring to become the next Raith Rovers manager.

The 37-year-old is currently out of work following a brief stint with St Mirren and is keen to embark on his coaching career in Scotland.

It is understood Donati has registered his interest in the vacancy at Stark’s Park following the shock departure of Barry Smith on Tuesday.

Donati spent two years at Celtic from 2007, helping the Hoops win the SPL and League Cup, while he boasts more than 300 appearances in Serie A.

English coach Gregg Ryder, who was formerly assistant to assistant manager to Iceland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson and has managed Throttur Reykjavik, is also thought to have applied.

Ryder was interviewed for the Morton post prior to the appointment of Ray McKinnon and was also keen on the vacancy at Livingston following the departure of David Hopkin during the summer.

Raith have also received applications from as far afield as Canada and have scheduled a board meeting for next Monday to whittle down their swathe of applicants down to a shortlist. Kevin Cuthbert will take charge of Rovers for today’s Irn-Bru Cup trip to Ross County.

Rovers chairman Bill Clark said: “We’ve had applications from all sorts or people – some seasoned coaches, some young people with little experience. Some people in jobs, some people out of jobs.

“We will draw up a criteria as a board, professionally and sensibly, and look at who is available and who is the right person for the job.”
