CELTIC are set to hand Kristoffer Ajer a new long-term contract.

SunSport can reveal discussions have been held over an improved deal for the 19-year-old defender.

Ajer is tied up until 2020, but Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that he will commit for longer.

Ajer has been a revelation this season and received his first call-up for Norway on Tuesday.

Now his progress with the champions looks set to be rewarded with an improved contract.

Ajer, signed by Ronny Deila in 2016, was sent on loan to Kilmarnock last season, but has made 24 appearances for Celts this term, and is now a first choice under Rodgers.

Talks between Parkhead chief Peter Lawwell and Ajer’s agent Tore Pedersen will continue as they work towards an agreement.

Meanwhile, Norway boss Lars Lagerback reckons Ajer can be an international mainstay for 15 years.

He said: “Ajer has a lot of self-esteem and confidence and is the type of character we need to be successful.

“If he really wants to, he will become a very strong player for the national team for ten or 15 years.”

Give him a Tierney length deal.

Like that under Brendan we seem to be more pro active when it comes to player contracts.

Sign him and Griff to long term deals and that'd be terrific business.

Aye dinnae give him Boyata's song just yet. Shatter whatever confidence Boyata has left and so long as BR sees him as our #1 CB that's not a good thing.

All aboard giving Ajer a new long-term deal however, there's going to be clubs sniffing about especially now that he's got a call-up from Norway.

Ronnie is dead? I never knew that
Hail Hail terrasidius! :83: This week just gets better and better :60: Hope you managed to see the game on Sunday.

Mind you it sounds like you missed it if you're worried about Dedryk getting a kick in the baws. It would be a lesson in the benefits of making good contact with balls when your opponent has possession, how it stops them being a threat.

Why does everyone keep saying Ronnie's dead? Is it some kind of meme someone started on here? Freaked me out first time I read it, I was nearly greetin as I Googled it.

BR: "I’m delighted for Kristoffer. It’s been a great journey for him so far. He’s adapting and improving every single day. I see him developing into a top class player. There’s still a lot of work to do and a lot of improvement but he has a lot of real attributes.”

Just been watching some of the Norway/Australia game..

Big man is strolling it from what I've seen. 19 and the way people bounce off him when he comes gliding out with the ball from the back is Virgil esque. So so comfortable..
