    Great thread!

Too right, it always peeves me that there is next to no fuss made about this day. Was listening to the local radio on the way to work and they were mentioning this as well, phoned a place in Barbados, whom St Andrew is also the patron saint, and they have festivities and get a holiday.

I’d * love to get right up for it and hit the pub with my saltire akin to St Paddy’s day

Andrew was first recognised as an official patron saint of Scotland in 1320 at the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath an appeal to the Pope by Scottish noblemen asserting Scotland's independence from England.

Got my scotland saltire boxers on.

It is shocking how little folk care about this day. Compared to even England's St George's day, which I reckon gets more * attention in Scotland than St Andrews day.

Dunno what's worse, the fact we let it happen in our own house, or that they are so * cringe with their own.

Didn't know this. And so maybe this is reason enough for Protestant Scotland of the day never to put a celebration in place. The papal involvement.

How do these people become Saints of so many places they're not from or even stepped foot in?

    Weird thing to celebrate.

Had a lovely wee day, went and paid my bills and debts then trudged along the road freezing cold to tesco to get what I could with the little money I had left. All the way home before I realised I forgot the eggs and I left my keys in my sisters house. But I just looked up to the sky and winked cause I knew it was St Andrews day.

I only take any notice at all of this day as its the day before my birthday. Its such a 'who gives a flying *' of a day. Its not even a bank holiday let alone a public holiday. No even the Hooketer Chookters in the North care about it.

Aye its such an insignificant day you felt the need to take the time to tell us that :56:

Oh and you're wrong as well :50:

The St Andrew's Day Bank Holiday (Scotland) Act 2007 is an Act of the Scottish Parliament that officially designates St. Andrew's Day (30 November) to be a bankholiday in Scotland.

Thank you Andrew for giving birth to the Nation of Scotchland and for taming the lock ness monster, on which you rode to your crucifixion on.

Well I went to the bank yesterday (St Andrew's Day) and it was open.....so whatever kinda holiday its supposed to be....i.e bank holiday whatever, it's definitley insignificant because not even the banks acknowledge it.
