    ST JOHNSTONE… 1

    CELTIC… 3
    (E Henderson 22, Savoury 63, L Henderson 65)

TOMMY McIntyre’s Development Squad maintained their 100 per cent start to their league campaign with a 3-1 away against St Johnstone this afternoon (Wednesday).

The Henderson brothers, Ewan and Liam, both got on the scoresheet, while substitute Grant Savoury also netted for the Hoops in what was a strong and confident performance.

Celtic started strongly and Lewis Bell had a good chance just after the quarter-hour mark, though the St Johnstone goalkeeper dealt well with it.

Five minutes later, it was Celtic keeper, Ross Doohan, who was called into action, dealing comfortably with the home side’s effort.

The Hoops were soon in front, however, when Ewan Henderson finished off a slick move with a fantastic 20-yard strike into the top corner.

Celtic continued to control proceedings, with the defence dealing with any Saints threats, and just before the break, Joe Thomson had an effort cleared off the line.

Two minutes into the second-half, however, St Johnstone equalised with a header inside the box from a free-kick. And having got back into the game, the home side pushed forward in search of another goal, with Doohan producing two vital saves within seconds of each other to keep the score at 1-1.

Celtic made a double substitution on 62 minutes with Regan Hendry and Grant Savoury on for Broque Watson and Thomson. And a minute later, Savoury struck inside the box to put Celtic 2-1 ahead.

Two minutes later it was 3-1 when Liam Henderson produced a stunning long-range strike which the St Johnstone goalkeeper could do nothing about.

Kundai Benyu had two opportunities to add to Celtic’s goal tally, but both of his efforts went narrowly wide, while Liam Henderson’s 25-yard free-kick in the last minute was just wide of the target.

CELTIC: Doohan, Bell, Welsh, Hill, Miller, Thomson (Savoury 62), L Henderson, Watson (Hendry 62), Benyu, E Henderson, Crossan.
Subs: Willison, Aitchison, Duffy, McInroy, Church.
