Brendan on centre half issue - Not too many Toure’s about. It’s a challenge to bring in. Do you bring in a young talent? We need to sign a centre half. We have great centre half’s but they need to be available

Nir Bitton has been brilliant for me

BR - People have been watching Nir with confirmation bias. He’s been great We want to develop the club and squad and looking to do that

Guy asking about the “assault” on KT in cup final

Brendan brought up some matters following League Cup final. “I hear excuse player is clumsy or can’t jump without elbows. It still puts players out of game”

Can see us spending a fair wack on a CB if Brendan has labelled it a priority at the AGM. Won’t be fannying about until deadline day looking for bargains.

CELTIC plc’s AGM for 2017 took place in the Kerrydale Suite at the stadium today (Wednesday) in an atmosphere of positivity surrounding the club both on and off the park.

Chairman Ian Bankier once again took charge of the meeting, and he was joined at the top table by his fellow directors, and Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers, with the three domestic trophies won the previous season by the manager’s Invincibles taking pride of place at the front of the room.

The AGM began with a series of video interviews with the chairman, Chief Executive Peter Lawwell, Celtic FC Foundation CEO Tony Hamilton, and Brendan Rodgers.

All 11 Resolutions put before the shareholders were passed in near unanimous agreement.

The first Resolution sought to confirm the Auditor’s Report, the Strategic Report and the Directors’ Report for the financial year ended June 30, 2017.

Resolution 2 saw Sharon Brown confirmed as a director of the Company. She was appointed a non-executive director back in December last year. And Resolutions 3-6 saw Ian Bankier, Dermot Desmond, Tom Allison and Brian Wilson re-elected to the board.

BDO LLP were re-appointed as auditors to the company after Resolution 7 was passed, while shareholders also passed Resolutions 8 and 9, which, respectively, authorised the directors to determine the remuneration of the auditors and granted the directors authority to allot shares.

Resolution 10 was a special resolution to grant the directors authority to disapply pre-emption rights, which was passed.

And Resolution 11 was a shareholder requisition, which called for a review of matchday facilities at Celtic Park. It was a resolution which was also supported by the Celtic board.

Peter Joyce, chairman of the Celtic Disabled Supporters’ Association, spoke eloquently in favour of the motion, highlighting both the improvements made within the stadium with regards to disabled supporters, but also the areas that still needed to be addressed, hence the motivation for bringing forward this resolution. The Resolution received overwhelming support from shareholders.

Before the meeting was opened out to the floor for general questions, Supporter Liaison Officer John Paul Taylor gave a report to the AGM on the progress of the Fans’ Forum, which had been set up following a resolution passed at last year’s AGM.

The Fans’ Forum, which is facilitated by Celtic director, Brian Wilson, has met three times, with representatives of the main Celtic supporter bodies, along with individual fans, discussing various issues with representatives of the club.

Both Company Secretary Michael Nicholson and Brian Wilson spoke in response to comments from the Celtic Trust, explaining the purpose and value of the Fans’ Forum and their belief that it had proved to be a successful platform up to now, with a good balance between individual supporters and supporters’ groups represented in the meetings.

Shareholders were then invited to ask questions, with a variety of issues raised, including an update following the club’s call for the SFA to conduct an independent review into Scottish football and its licensing procedures. The SFA Compliance Officer is currently conducting an investigation into the granting of UEFA licences specific to the 2011/12 season, and the club are awaiting the results of that investigation.

The club also indicated that it would look into other issues raised, including the ticketing arrangements on UEFA Champions League nights for supporters who have to move from their normal season ticket season and the prospect of reducing the concession age from 65 to 60.

Brendan Rodgers was asked if he was here for 10-in-a-row – the most popular question he’s asked, the Celtic manager admitted – and he explained that he has never been happier in his professional and personal life, and that he and his team want to continue the great legacy and history of Celtic. To do that, he said, the team need to keep winning.

And the Hoops boss, in reply to a question about the Celtic defence, explained that he is looking to possibly bring in another centre-half, but he also singled out Nir Bitton for praise, with the Israeli internationalist having slotted into central-defence to help the team in the absence of some of the recognised defenders who were out injured.

“Nir’s been brilliant for me in this European campaign,” the manager said, “and he was outstanding against Bayern Munich.”

The chairman concluded the meeting with the hope that they would reconvene in similarly good spirits 12 months from now.

New main stand £30-£40m would love to see that, would take our stadium to the next level..

Wonder if we would need to close it and play at Hampden or something for part of the season.,

I wish Brendan would give over with the "Nir's been brilliant for me" guff. It's nothing but a smokescreen to deflect attention away from the fact that we should have signed a centre-half before the transfer deadline but didn't.

Or maybe it’s because Bitton has come in and played an alien position to a reasonable standard against the very best and done a job for us?

I'm not a fan in the slightest but to be fair to him he's stepped up.We should have had a CB sorted but Bitton has done well in a position that's unnatural to him.

Bitton has been decent tbf to him, but it was clear for all to see that we were crying out for a CB in the summer.

We tried to sign a centre half but he was injured. Nir has grown into the role in the absence of Boyata, Jozo and Erik, domestically at least.

It could also be seen as a veiled dig at the board, "thank * I had Nir because I've no one else" type of comment.

Maybe I'm a petty * but the hiring of Parks busses should've been stopped the day he bought shares in the tribute act.

It would be pretty expensive to tear down the old stand and build a new one from scratch.. new dressing rooms, suites etc... but that's what's required..
