    Aye, quite weird.

Just on BBC Sportsound their talking about Desmond. Claiming more people will be exposed. In fairness to Daly he done a good job on the Huns. Which has me slightly concerned that there's more to the Desmond angle. Although I would be astounded that given what was going on in the timescale Desmond gets mentioned in, that it would involve Celtic.

If not, then the whole Desmond angle isn't worth it.

Celtic angle aside. It's infuriating that individuals like Desmond, Ashcroft and Co * shaft the tax system. Legal avoidance or not.

Desmond's business is based out of Dublin. Haven't heard the latest and I don't like the rich getting easier times than the rest. But surely it must be similar to Apple etc. Trade in the U.K./States but company based in Ireland?

I don't see any reason to believe Celtic will be implicated but Desmond was certainly squirming like * when Daly confronted him. Personally I didn't believe a word he said vis-a-vis the tax avoidance.

I suppose I’m in the minority but if there was a legalish way I could not pay my tax or as much I would do it and so would most I would imagine.

But being rich opens many doors.

I agree about the likes of Apple etc who have mind boggling profits but pay very very little in comparison.

    Edit no the queen though.

    * the queen

I agree with to an extent, legal tax avoidance surely highlights a problem with the legislation.. Morals don't come into big business..

I didn't think he was squirming he answered the questions. Daly only highlighted the Rangers Supporter comment when you look at the whole letter it provides a bit more..

Spot on. If laws are dumb and allow people to legally not pay as much tax as they otherwise would then change the law. Or dont but then politicians and the like shouldnt moan and feign outrage.

Investing in an ISA or putting gross income in a pension wrapper is tax avoidance. Tax avoidance is perfectly legal and often couraged by the state. Also, if you have a prviate pension then it may well be possible that you are indirectly holding some offshore holdings that you are not aware of. Actually, you may well hold a biggest portion of your portfolio offshore than the queen!

Tax evasion is illegal. Some offshore investing is deemed tax evasion but the vast vast majority is to facilitate tax avoidance.

Obviously she shouldn't be engaged in tax evasion (from what I have heard she isn't). However tax avoidance is perfectly legal so as we are all allowed to do so, providing you are eligible for UK tax, then why shouldn't she do the same.

I think you may well be correct mate. I just didn't think so many people didn't know the difference ..especially given how simple it is. I wonder how many if those venting about this have tax avoidance schemes themselves.
Now that DD has been named and dragged into this I wonder if we will continue to get the same pish spouted now though :56:

Avoidance - I recommend it numerous times a week. I also recommend Trusts as well, all perfectly legal and encouraged by government.

You mean in the letter mate?

Defo looks legit they showed the same letter on BBC Scotland News, given the tone as well they would be stupid to broadcast something that he didn't write..

Legally, it's fine. Ethically, it's not. She is the figurehead of public bodies which require tax-funding and also revenue & customs which is tasked with minimising the tax gap (of which I am involved) It's hypocrisy in the extreme.

Not denying it just asking the question.

Mainly because I’d find him questioning the investigative journalist who was all over the EBT scandal being a Hun
    very, very, peculiar.
