The best thing that happened to us domestically is this amazing undefeated run. The day we lose one in the league, we'll probably go on to lose a few others that year. But having it in tact definitely provides an added incentive and hunger to every league game.

Did we buy anyone after we were guaranteed the group stages of the champions league last season?

I wouldn't say our board or manager have been caught up in the invincible season as the boards willingness to spend has pretty much been in line with previous seasons.

In some ways I'm glad they are continuing business as usual because it can be easy to be caught up in the hype then throw caution to the wind and start dropping £5mill-£10mill on four or five players each.

This team didn't need a great deal of investment due to it's strength domestically and any improvement we can make in Europe is always going to be marginal because those type of players really are out of our price range.

It's unusual for any club to have 3 of it's four CB out with injuries at the same time, it's even rarer that any team would have more then 4 CB worthy of being in the first 11, now if a VVD were to come along the by all means get the * in, but you will need to sell the likes of Boyata or Erik to keep a good balance and harmony within the squad.

GK for me is the biggest failure for me in this window, we've done fantastic so far from what I've seen with guys brought in but the one real area that needed the investment is gk, maybe lb after that but gk is something Rodgers, the scouts and board should have been seeing as a priority.

I think the celtic policy is to spend just about enough to get into the champions league and to be the best team in scotland.

Like it or not it feels like we have very little interest in spending to progress in Europe. I partly get why given even a 20m spend wouldnt be enough to get past the likes of Bayern and PSG. But at the same time, we seem content to wait until we need to replace talent before we strengthen and to go into the champions league with one fot striker and a patch work defence isnt right.

    All in all very disappointed

Being linked with loans after qualifing to the CL...

The cash is going to the shareholders. We bought only one player who can improve the team this year.

we publish our turnover and spending every year, the cash isnt just going to go to shareholders.

If I'm honest i would rather we saved the money than panic buy, the money is clearly available for brendan to spend, if not now then in january.

loans arent always a bad thing either, we've avoided splashing out on a few duds (for us) like miku who would have cost us £6 million this way

Our manager must be a fkn lunatic if he cant find a defender that can do a better job than two midfielder. Even Boyata and Erik should be darn easy to replace.

BR blind spot looks to be CB, if it wasn't for Torino fkn about he was ready to sell Jozo.

In 2 years we've spent 3 players who improve our first 11...

    Ntcham
    Sinclair
    Dembelle.

We've been waiting for more quality for an age it seems.

Listened to the good people on this thread and tried to be patient and reassess, stop being so negative etc ....'they'll pull something out of the bag', 'trust in Brendan' etc
To give some credit to the board, they tried to get Paddy on a permanent.

However, asides Ntcham, no improvements v end of last season.
    No CH going into UCL.
Underinvested again v income and another opportunity to improve lost.

The window is 2 months long and we wait to the last week / day to get something done.
Boyata and Erik have been injured for 3-4 weeks+, not since the weekend.

    Poor.

I wanna see my team improve year by year after all the success we've had. And we're simply not. Ntcham is a project who will be sold in a couple of years...

Where the * is all the money going? It's not going into the team. Surely to * we don't rely on selling and champions league money just to keep the lights on... If that's the case then it's simply no a viable business strategy and we are a ticking time bomb

All the cash is going to the shareholders. It's really obvious at this point.

So it's becoming a bit of a myth that we'll spend money if we get to the Champions League...we don't either way!!

Bingo. All through the transfer window, you'll get people, desperate to seem "rational" telling you we must wait and budget for CL money. It doesn't happen either way.

In January it'll be "it's a difficult time to get players in, we'll get them before the qualifiers".

Early in the next window it'll be "we have to wait and see if we qualify for the Champions League first". Then we won't spend again.

    On repeat.

Think everyone is jumping the gun a bit tbh.
We didn't get a CB in but we are hardly going backwards.
We have just signed 2 French prospects, have a 50+ game unbeaten domestic run, got a fantastic group in the champions league with a real chance of progressing into the Europa league..
Our team is full of young hungry players who have improved remarkably since BR took over and will definitely improve this season with more champions league experience.
We are improving on and off the field with a top manager and promising academy.

Sit back and enjoy this while its going so well.

Roberts himself said there was a credible attempt by Celtic to sign him on a permanent deal but Man City (richest club in the world, btw) couldn't be swayed by Celtic's cash.

That deal would've smashed Celtic's transfer record. We might still get that deal done. People need to stop getting hysterical because we haven't spent that money. Arguably Celtic are sitting on a ~£15m pot of cash which has 'Patrick Roberts' and 'Edouard' written on it.

Honestly - totally agree a CB should come in, but making out we've spent * all or we're in financial trouble is ridiculous.

Not getting a CB in was disappointing but it's not like there wasn't any concerted effort made - crucially anyone coming in has to be of a better standard than Boyata, Sviatchenko, Ajer - Good on the deck, strong in the air, relatively quick. Very difficult to find players ticking all these boxes within our budgets and other clubs willing to do business. When Boyata and Sviatchenko are both fit Ajer/Bitton essentially become 4th choice centre backs, better to wait and target a player with potential over a longer term than making a rushed purchase
