For clarity... 2 year deal (2years left) or 2 year extension (3years left)?

    Summer 2019. Basically a 1 year extension.

"CELTIC are delighted to announced that Stuart Armstrong has signed a new-two year contract that will see him remain at the club until at least the summer of 2019."

This won't do him any favours. Rodgers effectively knows he has no interest in being here long term, so why would he play him ahead of Ntcham? A guy who looks like he'll be a better player and is on a four-year contract.

Stuart can expect to have a good relationship with the bench this season.

Not sure what to think about this. Signing till summer 2019 probably means the club have agreed to either sell next summer regardless of the offer or let him walk summer 2019 (which wouldn't be a very Lawell thing to do).
So I'm thinking he's away next summer. Stuart may not have thought this totally through, he could be behind Ntcham Kouassi Rogic and McGregor in the pecking order. His stock could seriously decline if he's not at his performance level of last season or at least second half of the season.
And honestly I'm not particularly concerned. I've total confidence in Brendan finding his 17 goals from last season elsewhere.

Yeah I'd be looking to get him sold in January if that's the case. He obviously doesn't want to commit. He's been advised horribly and it will backfire on him.

It amazes me that players don't look at the likes of Hooper and Liam Miller etc that left the club and made a complete balls of their career.

They'll come from McGregor and Rogic who ever gets the nod in certain games.

For me this was always coming after Brendan's comments before, or after, the Astana game, can't remember. He said "he should be signing for a wee while longer". Always pointed to a shorter contract imo. Severely underwhelmed, punt in January for the most £ we can.

He's made a * of it. He's not gonna get anywhere as much game time as last year. Instead of going to chelski or city, or whatever the * his agent told him he was going .. he'll end up in a relegation scrap. Struggling to get a game for a bottom feeder club. *.

Maybe it's a chance for Stu to get his head back together and show he's worthy of being here again.

I think Stuart Armstrong is smart enough to know what he wants himself and acting on that instead of being led by his agent or others down a certain path. Maybe he is looking at the success the likes of Wanyama and Van Dijk have made down in England as opposed to Miller and Hooper. I would imagine the former two would be used as a means to try and persuade players to join us.

Think the deal was done to maximise transfer sale,he will probably have been told we will let him go in January, sensible move by the club imo, whilst Stuart will earn a bigger wage for a few months until then.

I mind his agent's link was posted in here the other day.

I've actually met the guy on two occasions -proper *. Was at an event for a youth club where Armstrong was and he shielded him to *.

If he thinks he's in the Wanyama and Van Dijk category then he's deluded.

I'm a little surprised he didn't repay Rodgers for his support, after Ronny messed him up/about a bit, but after all he's not a celtic fan, so unlike Tierney etc. there's no reason for him not to make a move.
Maybe he sees the extension as repaying the favour, but still making the 'big move' while young enough to make the most of it.
I think he may be gone in January now, which us a shame, but it's his own doing... certainly gone next summer.
