Youth/Development Team Thread

It depends. If they've actually got a chance of making it here then I wouldn't loan them out I'd have them in and around the first team at 17/18.

Tierney, McGregor and Forrest never went on loan at 16/17.

Loan or not, McIlduff wasn't ever going to be good enough. You seem to think just because someone is in our academy means they're good, or that they're automatically better than anyone else in Scotland. We let Andy Robertson go instead of Joe Chalmers fucksake.

 

McIlduff never impressed me whenever I saw him up until the other night. He was never going to make it.

 

Celtic Development team have the chance of winning the league albeit a slim one.
Currently it stands as follows

1)Ross County on 66pts with 1 to play
2) Celtic on 61 pts with 2 to play
4) hamilton on 60pts with 2 to play

3rd are not relevant in this.

Ross County have 1 match but it's against Hamilton so Hamilton could be on 63 pts after this.
Celtic play midtable Killie but then play Hamilton as last match.
So, if hamilton beat Ross County, Celtic have to win both of their final games to win the title.
If Ross County draw then Celtic can still win the title on GD if they win both games.
Anything less than 2 wins sees Ross County as champions.

 

Tierney and Mcilduff came through the academy at the same time, they are the same age, my m8's lad played with both of them. u don't half read some * regarding young players on here. KT only got his chance because of Delia, and has went from strength to strength, if it was up to McCart KT would've been released.

 

McIlduff is a few months older and nowhere near his level.

And if Rodgers can get his man in the summer McCart will be the one leaving. Rodgers has already started bringing in people in the background. Would expect him to complete the overhaul in the summer.

Rodgers wants a world class infrastructure. O'Halloran, McCart, McIntyre etc should all be replaced sooner rather than later.

 

Aye I can easily see Brendan after his comments after the under 17's making big changes. Hopefully it sees Congerton bringing in youngster's from England and abroad to enhance us..

 

Aye Congerton will be scouting Europe for talent, but I think it's more to do with coaching. Look at the difference Brendan has made to the top team. He's wanting youth coaches that can do the same to different age groups.

I've said it before but O'Halloran especially, is an absolute dinosaur.

 

Believe it or not Mcilduff was well ahead of KT a few years ago, but Delia saw something in KT and its worked well for him, he's a cracking lad. I agree %100 with your comments regarding McCart and McIntyre, they have ruined far to many good young lads and are a liability to Celtic, O Halloran is a better coach than the both of them, his team beat Chelsea in the final in the Nike Tourney a few years back, they were a cracking footballing team, Mcintyre got them the next season and ruined them.

 

I was thinking about this while watching the final the other night, I think they should allow 1 or 2 overage players in the development league teams. Give players coming back from injury some game time and think of the experience the young lads would pick up playing next to the likes of Toure or Brown (just as an example) for a couple of games? And also playing against some first team standard players. They would probably learn more in 90 minutes than in 20 games against other 17-19 year olds. Imagine you are a 17 year old CB and you have Toure next to you talking you through a match. You can't buy experience like that.

It could be an alternative to loaning them out, as you might loan them out to a team that play an entirely different system (no bad thing necessarily), or they could be picking up bad habits from players that haven't made the grade and are in lower league teams due to attitude/commitment issues whil they are away.

 

They already do this. Think it's 5 overage players they allow

 

Really? I've never seen them do it, but then it is mostly cup games rather than league ones I've seen, might be different for those I guess.
