76 people dead, probably 1000+ absolutely devastated beyond consolation.
I hope they dont play it....or 'award it'....i hope they just leave it. Who gives a * about a trophy? It would say more in the record books if left alone.

    Truly shocked.

Just shows you that you never know what is around the corner. Imagine it happened to our club.

Thoughts go out to everyone connected with those involved.

The death toll has been revised down to 71, some passengers on the manifesto failed to board the flight.

With regard to the trophy Heysel springs to mind, Juve and L'pool ploughing on with a European Cup final largely ignorant of the chaos unfolding a few metres away from them and of the dead bodies strewn around the stadium. Would never happen in today's climate.

At this point there's probably a sense of why not give them the trophy, there's no appetite to play the game, nor one imagines a way of doing so as the bulk of their players registered for the tournament perished. The only thing that remains to be seen is whether the club would accept the trophy in the event of CONMEBOL sanctioning the suggestion of Nacional.

TBH I see less of a problem with this than the notion of a completely unrelated club like PSG stumping up 40 million quid, thank * those callous rumours were shot down. Nacional are a stakeholder here, fully entitled to think there but for the grace of * go we.

I was wondering, they were 11 miles from the airport, if he hadn't circled they would have made it?

The worst about this tragedy is that Chapecoense were a tiny side, living their best moment ever. Their squad was full of local journeymen that did not so well when they had a chance at big clubs and this season and game would be their redemption. Then something like this happens.

It's as if Hamilton were going to play an Europa League knockout stage match and their plane crashes with the only decent squad they managed to assemble. Premature death is always horrible but to die like this just before the time of your life is so sad

It's widely suspected the plane had for whatever reason way less fuel than it should. And recordings show the pilot was at least no clear enough about how serious their emergency was to the tower. The reason why they were forced to circle the airport when in such a bad state was another plane was also having an emergency.

Aye seen that, plus he was requested to refuel in Bogota but said he didn't need to, the fact there was no major fire or explosion after the crash points also to that, absolutely tragic and seems as though was preventable.

The president of Santa Fe from Bogatá (the last winners of the Sudamericana) has giving his club's trophy to Chapecoense.

That's so heartbreaking. Their whole team gone just like that. Really feel for those fans. Can't imagine how they must be feeling. Of course I feel for the relatives of the dead too, such a traumatic event. The excitement on the plane must have been amazing, small team reaching a big final.

    R.I.P Chapecoense FC

I think that was a nice gesture.

That's a very respectful thing to do. A whole year free. Well done, that's very honourable Juan Roman Riquelme and Ronaldinho.

Riquelme and Ronaldinho playing for them would be very special.
