Emilio Izaguirre says he is close to extending his contract at Celtic .

The full-back is back in the first team following Kieran Tierney’s injury – and boss Brendan Rodgers says he’s ready to offer the Honduran a new deal.

Izaguirre said: “I kept working hard in training and was ready to play when I got back into the team.

“The issue of a new contract is not down to me – my agent is negotiating with Celtic but the club have always treated me well.”

I thought he was great last night apart from the penalty. Crossing was better as well.

 

I was impressed with him last night too. He has a lot of confidence in himself, which gets him in trouble sometime, I admit, but it's what you need sometimes too.

Or passing out from the back was fantastic at times and you need that belief in your ability to do it.

I am more than happy to have him as back up left back in his current form.

 

He's awful compared to Tierney, need far better backup than him

 

I lost count how many times he dived in and the Barca player just dropped the shoulder and * off past him. We missed Tierney big time last night, we had so much space to get into down the left and he would of been bombing down there to support the attack. Plus would of been much better for us defensively.

 

The fact that Tierney displaced Izzyguire from the first team should tell us we need to know.

Izzyguire has been directly responsible for many of the * ups and blunders down through the years in important games,Cup Semis and Finals and European games, its well documented if you care to search TC's archives.

Both Lenny and Ronny suffered because of Izzyguire's mistakes, poor positional sense and repeatedly getting himself on the wrong side of his opponent, and unfortunately Brendan is now getting a taste of the same.

He is a bad full back period, and is simply not good enough to hold down that position.

And that is why opposing managers target that side of our defence repeatedly, you can fully expect McInnes to do it on Sunday too.

The only reason Izzy is playing is because we don't have another designated left back on the books, not because he has suddenly developed into a player overnight.

 

He actually played really well last night, we didn't lose because of the penalty, we lost because we didn't take our chances
