    I'm curious to what studies?

The Germans have long talked about introducing a 75mph limit as their studies say it's safer.

Edit : during the day as in during the week no trucks on the road? :smiley-laughing002:

There were over 300,000 accidents in Germany in 2014. 18,901 of which were on non speed restricted roads and 375 of those were fatalities of which there were over 3000.

Starts to paint a picture of where the issues are and it isn't Autobahn's.

For those who use satnav, in Germany if you have the satnav set for speed camera alert and are caught you will be fined and the satnav wil be confiscated.
I think that the law should be the same as Germany when it comes to having a Hi viz jacket in the car for every occupant (especially when travelling at night) as well as first aid kit and warning triangle.

I'm pretty sure that the UK police defended the use of cameras by saying they were for safety reasons rather than trying to catch people in a money generating way. They were then made to publish their locations and that's why we are allowed to know their locations and why they are hi-viz.

The German police are quite blatant about setting up speed traps to capture people and hit them with an on-the-spot fine for being just a couple of km/h over the limit.

I'm not sure what that shows?

Obviously roads with tight corners, road furniture and cars travelling the other way are always the most dangerous roads.

60% of all UK deaths happen on country roads.

Stats show that 67% of accidents on Autobahns happened in the areas with no speed restrictions. At the same time they are better laid out roads with less reasons to have an accident.

Germany's death toll v population % is almost 50% worse than the UK.

If you have an accident in Germany while going over the advisory limit, you are still deemed at fault for that accident more often than not, even when it probably wasn't you.

80 or 90 would make more sense. 70's not that fast nowadays but it's a nightmare when people end up going around 50mph. Get off the road!

Saying that, my steering wheel shakes like * when i hit 70 :smiley-laughing002:

Yeah during peak times trucks shouldn't be on the motorways, nearly all the congestion I face on the motorways is lorries over taking lorries and backing everything up. Pain in the hole. They can deliver whatever they need to deliver over night and not get in my way.

70mph is out of date and just feels slow as *....90mph would be a good limit.

I thought he was joking, but obviously not.

Not much point of the lorries working nights when most of the places they need to deliver to are only open days.

How often do you really get stuck behind a lorry anyway?

The Auto ban has 6/7 lanes at parts and also a wide hard shoulder to give more room in the event of an emergency. The roads in the UK aint built for it.

And then he will complain when there isn't fresh milk in the shops or he can't get his new tv delivered Monday morning because it couldn't come up in a trunk run during the weekend.

I work in construction so all construction workers must now work nightshift as that's the only time to go to get unloaded :smiley-laughing002:
