Big Kolo and Big Erik better have broad shoulders cos we're going to get absolutely steamrolled through the midfield in the group stages. People are also describing Brown as someone who can remedy that. Obviously haven't watched us away in Europe in the last 10 year. Or away at Pittodre or Ibrox for that matter.

We needed someone in the middle of the park who can dictate the tempo of a game, show a bit of composure and put his foot on the ball to slow the game down when we're up against it, and maybe even track a man as well. These are things our midfield is sadly lacking. Brown is good at winning loose balls and pressing, struggling to see what else he brings.

Didn't know whether to laugh or cry reading it myself.

Still though an extra £30M in the bank, why put it on the park eh?

Technically the money doesn't hit the bank until end of the season :56: so maybe we are skint and won't take a loan therefor Messi signing confirmed summer 2017...

I don't know what all the negativity is all about. Our aim this season was to get into the Champions League and win the League plus a cup or two. This is Rodgers first season, if you look back, O'Neill, Strachan and Lennon didn't do much in Europe in their first season, the fact Rodgers got to the CL is a big achievement in itself but realistically we were never going to compete. Come next season another 2 transfer windows will have opened, the squad will be smaller with quality over quantity and then we can think about competing in the CL.

We have a squad good enough to win the league at a canter right now and we will, however it's still filled with a lot of dead wood that we need rid of and some like Ambrose, GMS and Armstrong just refuse to move at the moment. If we just don't play them then come January they'll be forced to find new clubs and we can replace them with better players in the January window, not to mention Rodgers will also have a better idea of what type of players he wants and decent players frozen out from other clubs will become more available and willing to move half way through the season as other clubs find their own settled first team.

We're looking to the EPL for players or at the very least the English Championship and players are harder to acquire from these leagues than they are from Scotland and Scandinavian countries. I suppose we could have raided Danish or Swedish clubs for a few deadline day signings but that doesn't seem to be Rodgers plan at all. He seems to want players who play or have played in the Premier League that he's seen in action for himself, players he knows are an improvement over what we have rather than another Scepovic from some * club in Spain or a Bangura, Balde, Pukki.... (insert recent other * foreign signing here).

There's no point in signing players for the sake of signing them, if our targets aren't available such as Morrison and McCarthy, both of who's clubs didn't want to sell them then the best bet is don't make up third and fourth choice targets on a whim just to get a signing in before the deadline. Wait the four months until the next window when either the players become available or new targets have been properly identified.

No manager in recent history including the legends mentioned before have came in and transformed the club from European no-marks into a competitive CL group stage team in a few months. Be realistic.

Mental people moaning like * in the Deila reign when he came in that we didn't spend enough to qualify for Europe. Now sitting on a big windfall and in the groups everything is fine ... Would it have been the same under Deila had we qualified and never spent much and got horsed out of Europe would it be aw but we are expected to what's he point in spending big because we probably won't get to the last 16 anyway ... Sick of seeing oh we could have Xavi and still get horsed

People are full of * and very contradictave! We needed to strengthen areas and we done 1 out of 2 and there's no gaurentee that it will even work not dissing Gamboa before we see him but a midfielder was needed * the creative part a CDM was needed IMO

Tones will change quickly with a few bad results in Europe "hoping not obviously" but we shall see

In all honesty, we qualified for the Champions League then signed West Brom's back-up Right Back for half a million and we're hoping it turns out well because he played decently for Costa Rica a couple of years ago.

That's the truth, and it isn't even being negative. That literally might all work out greatly, but that is what we are relying to strengthen us following a 2-0 loss and abysmal performance in Israel.

Gamboa didn't get a game for West Brom because Pulis needs all of his defenders to only be interested in defending and to be at least 6 foot.

I'm sure that's 100% true, but still, West Brom's 2nd choice Right Back for a small fee is all we stumped up after scraping by European qualification following a 2-0 gubbing against an Israeli team. We've had all summer, and millions upon millions poured into the club throughout that summer, to find the right players for the positions we need. Central midfield is absolutely one of those, and yet we still didn't strengthen it.

Suspension to Brown and injury to Bitton. You're talking about going up against Barcelona, Man City, or even a crucial match against Monchengladbach where we might have a chance, with a midfield of Callum McGregor, Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic?

Come on ta Christ mate :56::56::56:

Ok, if we're going along with your viewpoint:

We signed a 34 year old goalie from the lower regions of the English championship to replace a goalkeeper who is a seasoned international and has won multiple league championships and cups with us

We signed an "over the hill" 35 year old defender for nothing after he was released from being a back-up player at Liverpool

We spunked nearly £4m quid for a player who was part of one of the worst ever teams to be relegated from the English premiership

We signed two teenage players, one an unknown from a lower level Norwegian team, and spunked £500k on a young French guy from a team that finished near-bottom of the English championship.

Oh aye, and another £400k on a player who was not even wanted by West Brom.

Now that you put it like that, how ever the * did we end up in the Champions League :54:

We scraped by to get into the Champions League though! 2-0 loss, terrible performance and had they scored a penalty they had, we'd have been out. After that I wanted strengthened, but all we really did was sign Gamboa (who, no matter how you look at it, is West Brom's second choice) and we're hoping he turns out well.

With Dembele he had a really good season in the Championship, Toure was class all through the Europa League campaign for Liverpool right into the Final, Sinclair has been untapped potential for a few years, I'm delighted with all of them.

It's what we did after qualifying for the CL that annoyed me. It's very hard for us to qualify nowadays, but we scraped by this year. It earned us millions upon millions, and clearly we still need strengthened- but barring hope that Gamboa turns out to be absolutely fantastic, we didn't go for it at all.

It's always the same with anything perceived as being negative though; there is a big controversy for a day or two, and then people cool off and realise that everything might not be as bad as it seems.

There's no denying that we need another CM for Europe, but domestically, we're by far the strongest side in the country and this transfer window has actually been a really good one for us.

As you say, a convincing demolition of the zombies, a respectable CL campaign and the emergence of Ajer in the middle of the park will go a long way in wiping a disappointing deadline day from the minds of supporters.

We're in the CL for the first time in three years, on our way to 6IAR and 10 in the long run. With the reaction of some folk on here, you'd think we were in our death throes.

Obviously would have been happy if the starting 11 had been further strengthened but if the players we could get didn't improve the starting 11 I'm glad we didn't spend it on another half bake signing. Rather not spend than buy dross
