After the Germany stuff I think 'mentally unstable' is now a euphemism on the continent, might not be the case in the UK though.

Maybe some idiot saw the news about the swanky new CT officers on display yesterday and decided to go out and test them.

I find it very strange that the police have come out with the probable cause was mental health issues so soon after the event .If this is to calm the fear over terrorism it won't work as their are more nutters out there than terrorists.

A knife attack does not really seem to be a terrorist's modus operandi and maybe the police came out with this statement so quickly because the facts seemed clear to them (although the police stated that terrorism is also a possibility being investigated). I feel sorry for the woman who died and do not want to downplay things, but it does not seem likely that terrorism has anything to do with this (could be wrong though).

Knife attacks are definitely the modus operandi of the mentally ill terrorist, that priest in France springs to mind

It could be said that anyone who adheres to ISIS could be classed as mentally unstable. Though it does now look as though this was the act of a nutter acting alone ?

It just seems to me that the police are giving the defence of this scumbag all the ammunition he needs to plead not guilty on the grounds of insanity, which seems to be all the rage in the last few months.

It's not that strange. If they've got the guy and found out relatively quickly that he has a history of mental health issues then why not announce it?

In that case though we really need to be asking why he was deemed stable enough to be on the street.

I think it will be because he was sane when he took his tablets but he maybe stopped taking them without anyone knowing. It's not uncommon with schizophrenia. Killing someone is quite rare though.

I tend to think the same, I don't think someone who is prepared to blow themselves up in the name of religion, while trying to inflict maximum casualties, is any less mentally unstable than a random knife attacker who's forgotten to take his meds.

Just heard that the attack happened at the exact same location as the bus bomb attack in London 7/7.
