Been addicted to gambling for about the last 6 years (24 now), been in and out of GA since then and realised its no for me. Anybody else addicted to gambling and been able to chuck it got any tips? Mostly play Roulette online and in the bookies but will gamble on mostly anything.

Slots for me, dont know what it is but i am more likely to * away 30 quid on slots than putting it on an evens bet which would give me a much greater chance of winning. Don't even want to think how much i have lost over the last few month.

Feel for people who get caught up in gambling so much. I had a brief flirtation with roulette machines in bookies once, got lucky then thought I was the man. The sick feeling of losing my last 50 quid when I couldn't afford to made me stop.

Nowadays, I just put 30 quid a month into my skybet and play about with that. Do it more for fun and the social aspect of watching the scores come in with mates etc. I'll throw on 20p accas at ridiculous odds and more serious fivers here and there. I think it helps that my wife would bust my balls if she knew I spunked hundreds/thousands away on gambling. So in that sense, some family support might help?! And definitely not keeping it a secret might also be of use.

First step, self exclude yourself from all your online accounts. There are also a few software programs you can install on your computer and phone that prevent you accessing gambling sites, they dont come for nothing though, usually £50 to £100 but thats probably peanuts to what your gambling away. Your bank can also stop you using yir card online, on certain sites, well RBS can.
    Worked for me mate :50:

I like a gamble myself but I'm not addicted.

The only advice I can offer you is.. All it is is a habit. There is no physical addiction there, only a mental one. Your body doesn't physically need you to gamble. If somebody gets addicted to heroin, Valium etc., their body develops a need for it. If they go cold turkey, their body may begin to go haywire.

It may sound like bad advice and something you've heard a thousand times before, but as far as I can tell the only way to stop is to stop.

Set yourself goals and treat yourself with the money you save. That bit is important. If you just try to stop and don't reward yourself then your mind will constantly be on gambling. And your efforts will seem futile.

Hope that helps.. I'm no expert but I've a huge interest in how the mind works in relation to depression, drugs, drug addiction and addiction in general and I've spent a bit of my spare time watching documentaries and talks about the mind. Hope you sort it out mate.

First and foremost, and im sure you know this already, but you cannot win at roulette other than in the short term. If you bet on it for any period of time, you are almost guaranteed to lose. The beautiful casinos and hotels in Vegas....how do you suppose they pay for them, and the wages of the staff?

Its insanity mate, it really is. I had the same problem for a few years, but i did not want to have to give up gambling, as i do enjoy it (i think)from time to time, so i had to make some concession....and i quit roulette. I had tried 'systems' galore, but there is no mathematical way around it, you cannot win.

Im sure you will relate, and others will cringe, but the second you know the roulette numbers off by heart, its time to stop. They (casinos/bookies) see you as a *! You pay their wages mate, out of your wages, and you are basically saying you have no control, and a stupid game is more important than peace of mind and having money in your wallet etc. You need those wee balls to fall in the right numbers to get through the day....its ridiculous.

My solution was to basically start resenting roulette. To view it is poison. I kept gambling, but on condition i never ever touched roulette again. Like others have suggested, give yourself a limit. I have a weekly limit which is still too much, but i can deal with it......and that way, if i do blow it early, i know in the back of my head it is only less than a week to have another go. If you lose early, its like a punishment...........and i have been doing this now for years. I like sports betting, and dont want to have to quit.

    All the best anyway....ya *!

I don't have anything to say that'll help you with your problem but a quick search online will reveal plenty of gambling addiction help sites.

All good advice mgm. Betting on virtual sports and roulette is a sure fire way to lose your money - fast.

It's important to know that it is literally impossible to win on roulette in the long term. Impossible.

For anyone who is addicted to slot machines- I work for a slot machine company and you need to put it in your head that the odds are stacked strongly against you winning a large sum. The machine is designed to take your money and put it in the pockets of casino owners and people who own companies like where I work. No one who works in this industry plays slot machines except as research to see what competitor companies are doing.

Dont do it. As a young teen I went on habbo hotel and made a casino. Within a year I was the richest on there watching kids loose everything they had to me. (virtual furniture paid for via txt etc) that showed me early, only fools gamble as the dealers always win.

Anyway I sold the lot for 3k at 17 and got my first car :56: good times.

Dont think "if I win..." once youve handed that money over, even before a game its gone. If you wouldnt burn that 10/20 why gamble it.

Set yourself limits, if its online gambling this is easier done. But if offline you may need to restrict yourself in other ways. Perhaps refusing to go down the street unless its a game day and only take out the money you need for that days activities - say a afternoon session down the pub, just take the £x out that sees you through and leave the wallet in the house.

It is all mental, and a lot of us suffer from it in various stages, but self control is the only way. But that can come from many sources. As mark says, his wife will boot his balls, so don't keep it quiet and see if outside pressure can help?

No words of advice but my old man told me something when I was very young which always stuck with me.

Alkies will drink until they keel over, junkies similarly with smack. Gamblers will go until there is nothing left, literally nothing. And that is why it's the worst addiction possible.

Get yourself sorted, by any means possible.

I can see how easy it can be too slip into gambling addiction, im terrible for chasing my losses.

Mibee lose £20-£30 then stick on a "sure thing" to claw some money back and that ends up * anaw :54:

Worst one i done was lost bout £100 one weekend then decided to stick £100 on hearts to win at home against hamilton on a sunday after celtic beat them 8-1 midweek....hearts got a red card in first 10 mins and ended up drawing :31:

I remember that exact game ! I was betting like * that weekend. Won a fortune, a really decent amount. And then * it all. Hearts game done me too ... The end game that day was Real Madrid. Lost to Villarreal or Valencia. Cannae mind, but it was the worst feeing ever.
Only consolation was I had worked my winnings up. However 'losing' that much was soul destroying.

Also remember some idiot on here claiming to have lost 17k, the exact same day. I was gonna comment about myself, but couldn't be arsed.
