Which proves the point scoring a lot of goals in Scotland does not make you a great striker, you have to do it at a higher level to prove it which means Europe.

Also, it's about more than goals as well though anyway Gary Hooper for example overall was a far better striker and footballer than Griff. Need to be aiming that high again.

Gary Hooper scored a couple of CL goals. Griffiths hasn't had the chance to prove himself in the CL yet but still found the net a few times in qualifying/EL groups.

There is absolutely nothing to suggest that Griffiths couldn't replicate what Hooper done in the CL because... HE HASN'T HAD A * CHANCE.

I'll tell you what though, my 40 goal striker would be more of a guaranteed starter than a guy we bought yesterday.

Higdon got 27 goals in all comps in one season for Motherwell, Rooney got 28 goals for Aberdeen in all comps in one season, Kane Hemmings got 25 goals for Dundee last season in all comps and Billy McKay got 27 goals for Inverness in one season in all comps.

Remember the clubs they are playing for then that isn't that far off Griffs who is playing for a far, far superior side to the rest. Scoring in Scotland is not difficult as this proves. Plus quite a few a lot of Higdons goals in Holland were penalties.

Gary Hooper is not a level above Griffiths. He's just different. Better link up play and a deadly finisher but he rarely scored a goal out of nothing and was shocking in the air. They're different players but I challenge you to show me when Gary Hooper scored 40 goals

Griffiths played his part in the Champions League qualifiers as well to be fair, one really well taken goal in the play-off game, can't remember if it was the first or second but capped off a great move, so he can do it in the big games.

A lot of our team needs ripped up from last season.

Erik, Roberts, Tierney, Rogic, Bitton and hopefully Dembele are the main players I'd be trusting in Europe next season. Everyone else's place is up for grabs.

Anyone who believes Griffiths should not be started next season need their * heads checked. 40 goals in 51 appearances last season. A guy who could be relied to put the ball in the net when we weren't at our best. He will be much better with someone up beside him and score more goals. As for Europe he will have learned so much from his appearances with the hoops and his goals will come. As for missing chances during games. Surely that's what all top strikers do. Get the chances, miss some and put some away. Good back up my hole.:56:

The difference between Griffiths and the list of other strikers to have scored goals in Scotland is pretty simple - Leigh Griffiths has scored goals his entire career.

He did it for Livi and Dundee in the lower divisions, he did it for Hibs in the top flight, he did it for Wolves in League One, and he's been doing it for Celtic ever since.

He's not perfect, but we really can't afford to scoff at a striker capable of scoring 30-40 goals a season for Celtic. They don't grow on trees.

Plus, I'd suggest someone like him is more likely to stay with us long-term, as opposed to heading to England at the first opportunity.

Exactly mate , can't listen to the crap about Griffiths anymore , we have signed dembele and talk of Sinclair and all of a sudden a lot of folk saying he should be benched etc can't cut it in Europe . This is a guy who carried the can for us and mainly Ronny for the entirety of the season and scored 40 goals . A right lack of faith from some people on here , what about his goal 40 goals , goal against rangers 3 in champs qualifiers and 1 in Europa in a very average time whether u want to admit it or not , Leigh Griffiths will be in the starting line up you can guarantee it !

He scored against Stargnan, Malmo, Fenerbache, had 2 offsides against Molde, and had a stinker against Ajax. That is the European experience we've seen from Leigh. Outside of that there is no sample size. Anyone saying Leigh can't hack it in Europe is talking up their *, he has scored and has had a big impact in games in Europe. Get him in the UCL group stages and he'll score 2-3, guys a poacher doesn't matter who he plays for or against.

You're going way back, let's talk the here and now which is more relative over the last 5 years when the gap between the SPFL and the English Leagues has widened to a scale no one thought possible at one time, it's literally night and day.

In the last 5 years the landscape has changed drastically. Carlton Cole ffs how many games did we give him up front in the league in a row? He wasn't even fit to play ffs that's an poor example that is to bring up. Must do better.

nah he just said the truth, something many won't admit to

I think it's clear Dembele will brush aside Griffiths, his record in the Championship with everything taken into consideration (age, league standard etc) is more impressive than Griffiths at Wolves.

Replacing Griffiths with Dembele and adding Sinclair in the mix is promising

Championship a far higher standard than our top league. You're lying to yourself to say Hooper wasn't a better striker than Griff.
Goals against Udinese, Rennes, Braga, Helsingborgs, Spartak Moscow, HJK says Hooper was more reliable at a higher level when Griff couldn't find the net against Molde, Ajax, Salzburg, Inter, KR, Qarabag etc.

Anyway, there's no point in debating Griff or Hooper because it isn't even a debate.
