Check currys, have a look what's in your price range and read a few reviews on whichever one's you look at. Has she photography experience ?

    http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/dslr-vs-bridge-camera/

That website explains the pros/cons of either DSLR or Bridge cameras. Better having a read up on that as well.

Remember to budget for a memory card, case, any other accessories she may want/need.

Was looking at a Canon G5x, nice little compact number but a bit pricey.

Buster as ch4 has said he has a LUMIX. They are made by Panasonic. They usually put a brilliant lens built in. Handy for the pocket, but solid. Usually have a big screen and produce brilliant photos. They are the best of digital cameras. After that it would be SLR camera which can cost a fortune for lenses etc. For all she uses it for stick to a pocket one.:50:

She's not wanting a big huge thing just a we portable pocket camera? In that case the Sony cybershot dsc rx100 iii? Costs around 500 though. Got the biggest sensor out there in a compact, there isn't a better compact out there imo. I got my gf it and she uses a tough waterproof one instead because she doesn't want to break it :56:

If you're looking for decent beginner DSLR cameras Canon do two - the 1200D (£280) and the bit more expensive 100D (£330). The 100D is the lightest DSLR on the market and still has the same functionality as other models in its price range. Canon also has a pretty good online support community which is handy for budding photographers.

There is also a cashback offer thing that they are doing were you can get £30 off the price, shops like Jessops, PC World, etc. all do it.

Listened to all your advice and some people in work and then spoke to her and settled on that she doesn't need a camera with a zoom in lens when its just for nights out so now she wants a good digital camera with, and l quote "a flash that * works"

Panasonic LUMIX Buster. Should get a good deal for one. Check Amazon. I have a few different ones and the Panasonic is the best.
