We just handed one of our rivals a whooping while resting like 8 or so players. We're gonna be too strong for this league for the forseeable, but always struggle early doors in europe, where we're a mid level team. If we're lucky it'll be CL, if not it'll be EL. people need to stop venting and get some proper perspective here...

So that means our must fans stop supporting the team and therefore become record rate themselves? That's a poor attitude. I don't understand where our 'supporters' go.

maybe it will give the board a kick up the * it needs as thats 2 years now without the champions league and the team is crying out for a few good quality signings . i would rather see 2 quality players coming to celtic than buying 5 players who might be not good enough for the team .

We ain't * Chelsea or Man United.

Put out the fringe players. Jesus christ. Half the teams in this competition are miles ahead of us! It's hardly a step down.

I already posted this benefits of this tournament, which are so * that it is just a waste of time to even try because we wont win it. I would be sending out a team full of youth for experience, this tournament is a distraction with a * payoff.

Europa League: 1.3m Euro for Qualifying into groups.
Lets be optimistic and say we win 3 matches and draw 2, that's 600k for the wins, 200k for the draws.

So for the groups we could walk away with 2.1million.

    Round of 32: €200,000
    Round of 16: €350,000
    Quarter-finals: €450,000
    Semi-finals: €1,000,000
    Losing finalist: €2,500,000
    Winners: €5,000,000

Assuming we get through and win the final which we wont, we would have accumulated, 11.6 million for the winners. Not including the money from the * EL attendances.

    Now CL.

    Group Stage fee: 12million

Already more than an entire EL campaign. 1.5m for a win and 500k for a draw.

Forget the money. We, as supporters, don't see any benefit of it and neither do the players on the park. It's a very good tournament - one which should be taken seriously by all at Celtic. Football is about more than the financial reward it may bring. Why would we send out a team full of youths to be simply embarrassed by sides who are on par with or better than our first team? Get behind the team and support them as we would if they were in the Champions League.

Of course i'd prefer to see us playing in the CL group games and giving a good account of ourselves but the EL still gives us games in Europe up to Christmas and I'd rather that than nothing.

Only drawback is at least 6 league games will now be Sunday kick offs which i'm not a fan of.

It's disappointing to not being in the CL two years running but we have no * given right to be there. Mistakes have been made from the board right down to the players and lessons have to learnt if we are to re-establish our name in the CL. But that is another debate for another thread.

So whoever we draw lets get behind the team and see just how far we can progress.

It's just a distraction were never going to win it. It's best for the youth to play in this to gain vital experience. Just face facts guys

The 1st bolded part...doesn't even warrent a response ffs.

The 2nd bolded part...a distraction from what? A league we're guaranteed to win!?

And to the whole point of your argument, I couldn't disagree more.
Yes, we've missed out on the CL money, why throw away our chance to recoup some of it without trying?!
It's like losing a winning lottery ticket, then going home and throwing your wallet out the window. Makes no sense whatsoever. :31:

You'd think us fans would be getting a cut of the prize money judging by the way we're talking down the Europa League. It's a good competition.

Surely at the wind-up. That makes no sense. We'd have less chance of winning the Champions League - should we view that as a distraction and play our youths in it?

It's European football at a good level.

It isn't a 'distraction'. These 6 games are the most attractive ones we will play all season, unless we get out of the groups and draw a big side again.

Forget about * money for a second. If we were in the EPL then you could say it was a distraction. That's the kind of * you were hearing from Spurs, West Ham etc. Right now though, where we are as a club, it's very much our level.

The attitude of some of our fans nowadays is sad.

Even Venglos thinks you're a * with that comment.

If we were in the Champions League, we wouldn't be likely to win it. Should we play the youth players whenever we get into that?

This is a pathetic notion. There's still a good amount of money to be made and the spl is all but wrapped up already, why wouldn't we try to win this tournament when our domestic league is not challenging at all? :bbpd:

I think we have a decent indication of that now.
