It's been pretty obvious the effect that Broony has on the team for a long time now, the worrying thing is we've never tried to combat it, we've never changed anything to try and cover the loss of his energy and leadership when he's not available.

Anyone got any ideas? I still think when he's not on the pitch we should go to 3 in midfield, we're easy to play through when he's not there. Shouldn't happen as our players are better than anything they're facing but still, it seems to happen.

    Anyone else any ideas?

Hopefully that's what Allan's here to do!

No idea mate, when Broony doesn't play our level drops a lot,our most important player imo.cant be just his energy and commitment though as Johansen has these attributes and when he plays in Broony position we are still poor.Only way to cope without him currently would be to change our style of play imo.

I'm not quite sure he has the mentality to step into Scott Browns shoes when he's not available.

Would be a very big expectation to stick on his shoulders.

He doesn't have the same kind of leadership on the pitch though, contrast his reaction when he had the armband on Saturday when Boyata * up to what Broony's reaction would be. Whether that's an arm round the shoulder or a rocket up his *.

I agree with the idea of putting three into the midfield. Have Bitton drop back into a more natural holding role and have any of Armstrong, Johansen or Allan ahead of him. Either that or have Charlie in the holding role and Bitton and one of the others in the middle.

Johansen has been poor in the middle in the past, but I think with a holding midfielder behind him that would ease the pressure on him to stay so disciplined in his positioning.

Aye, Johansen seems poor in a midfield two but when he was in a midfield 3 with Lenny he was good.

The biggest problem though I fear is the leadership. We aren't even particularly lacking in leaders, it's just that Broony is such a force. Any team in the world would suffer when a player like that is out of the side.

We don't have anyone else that could do it right now. Maybe Johansen in the future, he has the energy and the work-rate for it, but Broony's positioning is very intelligent and he's also very disciplined and Johansen lacks that

Armstrong is probably the closest we have..

Luckily we have a good 2/3 years to find a replacement..

Allan isn't a Brown alternative or replacement, completely different players.

Armstrong has looked the most likely recently, Johansen can obviously play deeper but his best position is further forward.

Think Armstrong would be perfect for it. Or even further down the line (assuming he's as good as everyone thinks) Henderson.

I think Henderson could be the answer if he kicks on.

Has the same energy levels(obviously not at Brown's level yet but it's there) and has the potential to be a better player technically.

I think we have enough to beat the Hamiltons and Invernesses without him. I mean, we need players to get experience and they can only become our new Broony with that experience. For too long we have had young talent and been afraid to play them; we are dominant right now and we should be bleeding the team with new players to ensure our dominance for the next 3/4 years.

Should drop Nirlo deeper, let him dictate the game from a DM position with Johansen and another hardworker just infront of him.
