It wasn't so long ago we were discussing who was better between Lustig and Matthews.

    http://www.talkceltic.net/forum/showthread.php?t=136842

This was prior to their injuries, of course, but I recall feeling Matthews potentially could be the better fit at RB. It's a shame about the injuries, but I would be surprised if he doesn't recapture his old form and push on from here.

Here's my prediction - he'll struggle for games and will end up in the Championship in 2016.

Talk of big money moves is pie in the sky.

Nah, lustig has * all over Matthews for a long, long time now. If we did a poll, it would be 100% Lustig, it would be criminal if it wasn't..

Aye. Good few of us have said that Matthews has probably wanted the off, and has looked like that for a lot of this season especially..

Aye fair play to you, you obviously know your stuff, as your man united pal must be the body of truth and fact.

Still doesn't excuse your ridiculous claims that Matthews is "a little too fond of a carry-on and a slightly lazy attitude, not a bad or devious manner, just doesn't have the mental strength to cut it in ronnys " 24-hr- athlete" culture"

Bit of a nonsense claim imo.

though I too, do not want to get in to a stupid wee debate over it, as I think he's served the club very well, and i do not believe he's leaving on lack of attitude, fitness or mental strength... i think he's going because an offer has come in for him, and we've got 4 right backs, with him being the no.2 option.

You just see so many people blaming he club with it taking into consideration what might be going on behind the scenes.

Personally, although I liked Matthews, I'm not all that bothered he's leaving. He's stagnated a little bit and with Janko and Fisher still there if Listing is injured, we have plenty of cover.

I can only conclude that if Matthews didn't angle for a move, Ronny rates Janko higher.

I feel it's a good bit of business, time wil tell if the squad is any weaker or stronger, hopefully this money will be used to invest in other areas that need strengthend

There is no chance that Deila wanted rid of him. If he did then we are *. That argument is so nonsensical that we should not even be discussing it. I hope Adam stays and runs down his contract because this gambling has to stop. We dont have a back up goalie and our strongest position is now in danger of becoming a weak link if we are unlucky.

I long suspected that this would happen I have been lobbying for him to get a new deal on year all year. Still though it is disappointing and why not sell him on deadline day. I'm certain that we would not get less than 2m. The most annoying part of this is that there has already been several myths floated about this.

    - Ronny does not want him
    - not a 24 hour athlete
    - does not want to be here
    - he is a back up player (hes clearly 1st team player weather he starts or not)
    - etc

Complete nonsense. If he had to go he had to go and I have no problem with this but the timing and alleged fee is wrong. With the CL qualifiers looming, why do we do this to ourselves. It is self harm and poor risk management. We are a joke. Why risk our CL fate when we dont have to?

Well, you must be right then.....

Adam Matthews is a good player. Just not good enough.

I'm now really looking forward to watching our new right-back.

Since when was Matthews so pivotal to our Champions League hopes?

Can't remember anything being said about him prior to this. We are all completely guessing here as well, how any of us can say for sure that Deila didn't want rid of him I don't know. :56:

I'm in no way downplaying our new right back.

Was just ridiculing your claims on Matthews, that's all.

That entire post is utter pish but what I'm drawn to is the statement that you'd rather we got nothing for him than £2 million.

Kind of sums up your night.

I think it's the right time to do this. It's probably in everbody's best interests.

I've got nothing disparaging to say about the guy. He's been a good turn for us over the years, and I wish him all the best.

I don't blame the club on this one, I think both parties are quite content with what's happening. He has stagnated, or you could even argue he's regressed. Big parts down to injury, place being sewn up by a better player but that's just unfortunate and sometimes how it goes..

Do I think he could have improved still with us? Yes, probably.
Am I a little disappointed at how much we're being quoted as getting for him? Yes, even taking in to account, injuries, form and contract running down..

He's a good player on his day, has showed that against some of the best, but for too often he wasn't showing it enough, in my opinion..

A couple of years ago, I thought he'd be a star and a stick on for a big money move to the prem, I really did..
