The Labour party didn't abandon its working class/left wing principals. The working class/left moved more and more to the right. The party followed.

All this talk of the party abandoning the people are nonsense. The people abandoned the party. The party followed.

If It goes to left again, its looking at electoral wipeout.

Its unlikely to lead to massive divisions in the party though.

Everyone knows their a broadchurch, ready to splinter off in the event of independence. They know portraying themselves as the social democratic, anti-austerity party works & plays well now.

There is many in the SNP far more right than the tories.

I think the old left wing command economy wont come back because it doesnt work well. So there is general agreement of a an economy driven mostly by private interprise. However what each party then done with the wealth generated and how it is redistributed still varies a lot. They all sort of agree with the basic same system but the degree does make a big difference. The SNP have struck the right balance IMO and some of their policies will bear fruit over the next decade which hopefully they will enjoy. IMO just to maintain the current approach in Scotland is and will be a major achievement in a tricky economic world.

As for deeper socialism, I dont see the old central command public ownership as a big part of the way forward. I have always liked the idea of partial cooperative ownership of workers to give them a stake and incentive and a fairer share of the fruit of their labours. I think some sort of breaks and incentives for such businesses should be provided to encourage them. Its the opposite of venture capitalism which I see as exploitative and shouldnt be necessary if the banks were better at helping businesses without people having to put their house on the line.

Ed Miliband is just a dog toy.

MSM and most commentators agree that Sturgeon was the clear winner, but of course that won't change how England votes.

This is on tonight at 8pm on STV.

Absolutely shocking that the Green party have been denied the platform, yet we see the Conservatives and Liberals given the opportunity.

Not really that shocking when you consider that the Tories and the Liberals currently have more MSP's than the Greens. Mind you, the Liberals have only five MSP's to the Greens two so it's not exactly a huge difference.

I agree with you though that the Greens should be given the opportunity to take part in this debate. They were given the opportunity to participate in the live UK party leaders debate so it doesn't appear to make much sense to deny them the opportunity to take part in the Scottish debate.

    It's disgraceful.

Maggie Chapman, co-convenor of the Scottish Green Party, will be answering the questions put to the leaders of the other four parties here (https://m.facebook.com/ScottishGreens?ref=bookmark) and on her Twitter account (https://mobile.twitter.com/Maggie4Scotland).

Both of those parties will poll far more votes than the greens.
Anyway, hearing that hugging trees and cycling to work is good for the environment is not very helpful ..

Oh and I believe they are on the next one , so calm down mate :50:

You telling me that you don't think the debate would be more informative and entertaining if they'd included Patrick Harvie?

    Or Tommy Sheridan :fear:

The Greens are the fourth largest party in Scotland by membership - ahead of the Liberal Democrats, polls suggest they'll be the fourth largest party in Holyrood after the 2016 elections - ahead of the Liberal Democrats, and they've been an integral part of Scotland's political landscape for the past few years.

They're the most left-wing and libertarian of all the major parties in Scotland, they're not just tree-huggers.

The UK greens only got air time last week because of Cameron , maybe he is not such a bad * after all ..
You are right, Harvie anytime I have listened to him has been ok and he certainly would have done better than the leader of the uk greens last week.
Tommy almost forgot about him :smiley-laughing002:

    Obviously mate :97::86:

I think the SNP are playing with fire by making the commitment Nicola Sturgeon just made there.

She said if no party wins an overall majority that the SNP would enter into a coalition with Liebour in order to get the Tories out.
