I would imagine they would just as players who played for Yugoslavia or Czechslovakia were alllowed to play for the various different countries after those 2 states broke apart including of course our very own Lubo Moravcik who played 42 times for Czechslovakia and then 38 times for his native Slovakia.

Theres not a chance this would happen. There is too much business and money at stake. Its scaremongering.

In that case would Espanyol also get expelled from the league? a "royal" team? not a chance. this is a nothing story to generate hysteria.

    COULD happen.

I Live here. Have many Catalan friends. It definitely COULD happen. Dont get me wrong, most of my Catalan pals are AGAINST independence, but it.s still in the air. So, aye, def. COULD be an issue.

Okay but on the same principle would espanyol also be thrown out? Surely to banish one ud have to do the same wif the other? So they will get punished, despite the collective political belief of their club also?

Im saying the chances or Barca, an iconic team team with a huge history, who are a huge attraction and franchise, being thrown out the league is extremely unlikely. There is no credible or sensible economic or football related sense in it as it will only be to the detriment of La Liga and spanish football.

Not. A. Chance. We Could get into the english leagues in the next five seasons. But its * highly unlikely.

I think the people of Catalonia would be up for this. They have always considered themselves as Catalans rather than Spanish. It rather different from us, since Scotland is a country on its own, but governed by the English (basically), whereas Catalan is more of region of Spain rather than a country within a country.

Sure if Catalonia splits from Spain, the Catalan's national team which consist primarily of Barca players will be a match for Spain. Actually the Catalonian national team already exist, they play friendlies only since they are not recognised by FIFA and UEFA.
But their team would probably be like this

    Catalonia XI
    -------------
    GK Kiko Casilla (Espanyol)
    DR Martín Montoya (Barcelona)
    DF Gerard Piqué (Barcelona)
    DF Marc Bartra (Barcelona)
    DL Jordi Alba (Barcelona)
    MR Aleix Vidal (Sevilla)
    MC Cesc Fàbregas (Chelsea)
    MC Sergio Busquets (Barcelona)
    ML Cristian Tello (Barcelona)
    FW Bojan Krkić (Stoke)
    FW Sergio García (Espanyol)

    leaving Spain with
GK David de Gea (Man Utd)
    DR César Azpilicueta (Chelsea)
    DC Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)
    DC Raúl Albiol (Napoli)
    DL Álvaro Arbeloa (Real Madrid)
    MR Jesus Navas (Man City)
    MC Andrés Iniesta (Barcelona)
    MC David Silva (Man City)
    MC Isco (Real Madrid)
    ML Pedro (Barcelona)
    ST Diego Costa (Chelsea)

That's if all Catalans choose to play for Spain instead of Catalonia. It's not a given that they'd switch allegiances. Are they even allowed to after having already been capped for Spain? How does that even work? Will Sudanese players be able to switch and play for South Sudan as well?

    :97:

are you for real? this has been a well known issue for years and your telling it like its something we didnt know...
"Catalan" isnt the name of the region. "Catalonia" or "catalunya" is the name of the kingdom. "Catalan" is the term to describe the people or the language.
Im pretty sure spain has a whole lot more players other than the names you have listed also...

Why not? They wouldn't be "Spanish" clubs anymore. It would look like the current SPL for a while, but I still believe Sevilla, Atlético, Valencia could step up, and I could see more foreign inversion on La Liga. So the real losers would be the Catalonian clubs.

Well, Catalunya born players could choose to stay with Spain or to play for Catalunya, but once they played one game with either they couldn't change anymore.

Same for South Sudanese born players.
