I don't know about running riot but if Catalonia had its own national team they would be a very decent side in world football. I imagine the Germans, French etc would love to see that happen as losing Catalonia would be a massive blow to Spain's national team.

They'd have a great side. Off the top of my head:

    Valdés
    Montoya Bartra Piqué Alba
    Busquets
    Roberto Fàbregas
    Deulofeu Soriano Iniesta

    Casilla
    Muniesa
    Grimaldo?
    Romeu
    Thiago Alcântara?
    Cuenca
    Bojan Krkić

    Ondoa
    Planas
    Samper
    Tello
    Adama Traoré

Bellerín's really highly rated. Did he come through La Masia?

Surely them leaving the La Liga would be good from our point of view. They'll want some sort of Atlantic League, another big gun supporting this idea?

I don't believe for a second they'd be allowed to leave the Spanish league.

The Spanish FA wouldn't be able to do a * thing about it.
Catalonia would be a foreign country after independence so Barcelona would be entitled to play there as it's their own country.
UEFA could only do something in as far as deciding if they would be allowed to be part of Champions League in their usual spot in the group stages.

People only talk about how much money La Liga would lose, but the real loser would be Barcelona. Real Madrid still have Atlético to sort of make a great clásico who everybody wants to watch...

Who would watch the Catalonian league? who would actually want to go to play there?

I still think that in the rest of the teams in La Liga could see a Barcelona departure as their moment to gain a fairer share and there still would be a Valencia, Sevilla and Atlético to try to fill that spot, even attract foreign investors.

Adding Catalunya wouldn't be part of the UE right away, so who knows what would be the status of their players in La Liga and the status of the UE players in Catalunya.

PS: Also it would be completely hypocritical to gain independence but to have a club still playing in Spain, specially when the Catalonian independist people are usually also Castillianphobic.

Barca would have to play 4 qualifiers to get into Champion's League- Catalan league not strong.

Catalonia does have it's own national team.

Decent squad but a bit light on strikers.

Yes but would not be allowed to play for Spain once they did so.

Catalans are a type of Spaniard. They are one of the Spanish peoples that I have already listed. Independence are not they will remain a 'Spanish' people.
