I think Scotland was under Vogt's when McGeady first declared for Ireland. The Irish team were just back from a successful World Cup and had the likes of Keane, Given, Dunne and Duff in their team. We were struggling against the Faroe Islands.

    Just no as * :icon_mrgreen:.

Honestly we were that bad. I've no doubt if we were the better team they'd be playing for us. Which is why I think Costa chose Spain over Brazil. A better team with a chance of more success. I really couldn't give a * just like playing devils advocate on here when people get raging over nothing :smiley-laughing002:.

Least you actually gave an opinion on what you thought about Costa and the cricket situation. Fair play.

Still hope we gub yeez on Friday though :icon_mrgreen:.

Geographically Perth is in the North of Scotland.

You even said earlier in the thread its not a problem from 'Perth onwards', this was after you said there were none outside 'Glasgow and the surrounding areas'.

I'll provide quotes again if you want?

It's more central. Perthshire is in the North.

This. McGeady and McCarthy were outstanding when they were younger and McGeady especially was seen as a bit of a shining light in Scottish football.

Of course you'll have the huns and the like that will use him choosing Ireland as an excuse to hate him and say its "football reasons" when we really know its political/religious.

For the vast majority though its because McGeady was an outstanding prospect.

I'm sure mcgeady starting playing for Ireland back when he where getting beat 5-2 by Cyprus if Scotland where even worse I'd just tell them to * off and play for no one :smiley-laughing002: I'm just looking at it from a celtic point of view because I'm sure tons and tons of the Scottish born celtic fans feel more Irish then Scottish and I wouldn't like to tell them otherwise

And yea won't Mcgeady and Mccarthy will both score in a 2-1 win for Ireland

But they will be og's :fear:

No idea. TO be honest I can't remember much about the specifics. I thought he played for Scotland as a youth but can't remember for sure.

Ultimately McGeady had his own reasons for playing for Ireland over Scotland, my guess it was partly due to an affinity with the country of his paternal ancestors, and partly due to Ireland being a lot better than Scotland at the time.

I don't think people should get that worked up about people booing him, I've never done it but was * of at him at the time. He's a rare quality player who would have been great for Scotland (and imo has been wasted a bit in previous Irish sides). Most people just feel annoyed/let down that a good player who was born in Scotland opted to play for someone else.

Judging by Jinky's post (that you were replying to), that is what you were meaning.

Remember when the HFA discriminated against Celtic players who were booed by their own fans.

    Jimmy Johnstone 24 caps.

He played for Celtic in 2003 I think, and declared almost immediately....either way a year or two isn't a long time in international football. Ireland's nearest competition was a major success with them losing to Spain on penalties. Scotland hadn't (and still haven't) been to a tournament in about 5/6.

You may have been poor, but we were absolute dog *. :smiley-laughing002:

I probably agree Mcgeady is wasted with Ireland and I don't think he played at all for Scotland underage because of a school kids rule as people keep on saying but because he was playing for us while he was young it makes me think he feels more Irish unlike most of the lads from England who are in are squad just because they aren't good enough for England think that's the difference
