With ratings based on opta stats, the best XI in the Champions League so far is:

    Handanovic
    Srna Sokratis Lombaerts Marcelo
    Koke Matic
    Brahimi Reus Hazard
    Messi

Was saying that the other night. Its suicidal playing that way, very easy for teams to break through the middle when Yaya's playing.

If I was playing 4-4-2 I just wouldn't play him, regardless of how good he is on the ball, youd need two midfielders playing behind him. Shocking how lazy he is for the money he's on.

It's a one striker formation and Messi is literally breaking records? Messi is a more complete player anyway, so he'll be upping his Opta rating with assists, a large number of passes and a high pass completion rate. The stats for each game will be weighted as well: scoring against Ajax will get you a better Opta rating than scoring against BATE Borisov, for example.

Messi's stat-map for his last CL game (Ajax, 2-0):

Luiz Adriano's stat-map for his last CL game (BATE Borisov, 5-0):

I think those two pictures speak for themselves :50:

Luiz Adriano has 4 more goals. Ergo, as a striker, that's what he's there to do.

Stick Messi on the right :icon_mrgreen:

Messi equalled the record by the way, not beat it.

Aye, he just seems to walk about the park. He doesn't seem anywhere near as interested as he used to be. When all the nonsense about him not getting a birthday cake etc, basically wanting more money, they should have punted him then.

Mad to compare Ronaldos V Liverpool to Messi's v Ajax.

Messi attempted to put 15 passes/crosses into the box, Ronaldo only 2.

That isn't really a surprise. Ronaldo is constantly looking to shoot, sometimes from ridiculous distances.

Aye he hit 10 shots in that game. In the CL this season he'* 30 shots and scored 3 goals. Luiz Adriano Devlin mentioned has only hit 12 shots and scored 9 goals, Messi 20 shots 4 goals. Ajax as a team have only hit 37 shots in 4 games.

Aye as that other guy said it takes in all stats like tackles, blocks, interceptions, amount of times they lose the ball from bad touch, amount tackled, headers won, shots, cross, passes, accuracy, offsides, long passes, through balls, amount of passes, dribbles, dribbled by other players etc etc etc

Since it's been being done, in the CL Messi has finished 1st 2 times, 2nd 3 times, 6th once and is currently 1st again. He also finished 1st in the World Cup.

They also say whoever was rated the highest in each match was MOTM, in the CL since 2009/10 Messi has been named MOTM 35 times out of 57 games. To show how good that is Ronaldo has only been MOTM 18 times in 55 games.

In the Spanish League Messi has finished 1st in the player ratings every season so far(5 seasons in a row), although is currently 2nd at the moment 0.28 points behind Ronaldo. He also has 34 MOTM awards more than Ronaldo in the Spanish League in the 5 seasons up to now.

Either of CSKA Moscow or Roma winning in the early kick off guarantees that Man City MUST win both of their remaining games to qualify.
