Thinking of getting a motorbike as my new commute to work, Ayr to Coatbridge at rush hour times is a bit of a nightmare as you can imagine.

Just been having a gander at bikes and surprised at some of the fuel efficiency, so my question is would I be best going for the direct access scheme so I can go on any bike I want? or going the 125 route?

Also a ballpark figure on prices would be great.

I do have experience of geared bikes so not really a newb.

Bought a bike off a guy when I was 15 with a couple of my mates, it was * and we gave him 40 quid for it.

He was boasting to * that he had ripped us off.

We stuck some new spark plugs in it and it worked like a dream.

Tore the * out of it for a couple of weeks then sold it for 200 quid.

Up ye ya hun fud. :smiley-laughing002:

This is the bike I own now, its an offroader so just drive it on dirt tracks in the forest.

Its only dangerous when you have drivers on cell phones or not giving a * about other road users. Dont stop at a 125, do the DAS and get a bigger bike. I started late on bikes and i love it. At one point i had 4 bikes in my garage, i moved to Canada and flew my bike over * near the same price as buying a first class ticket.

So it's dangerous all the time then?

    Go for direct access.
The government will be changing the rules again soon and although it's expensive to go direct access it will still be cheaper in the long run than going through the other route.

people say that cycling can be dangerous with the amount of * drivers going around. Statistically speaking you are 17 times more likely to have an accident on a motorbike than you are on a bicycle. I'd love to own one but couldn't justify the risk to myself.

Aye I thought that as well, seeing as I'm 27 there probably is no point going for restricted license.

Nice :50: I do prefer the sport bikes tbh, was looking at a ninja 250r or maybe a 300 as anything above that would start getting a bit hefty on insurance?

Also in want something thats pretty economical and can hold it's own on the motorway ie pass people with no trouble and not rattling my teeth out :smiley-laughing002:

True but a lot also comes down to how experienced a road user you are and a degree of confidence and awareness.

Seeing as I spent around 55 hours a week actually driving on the road gives me an advantage in that aspect.
