Not really. You seem to have a major problem with Irish songs of freedom. You might find Flower of Scotland strange and out of place at Celtic games but you did not say you would be disappointed to hear it. Perhaps if you just found Irish songs strange and out of place then I would not have said it was an Irish thing.

Right folks tomorrow morning I won't be providing media review but catch me on BBC Scotland after 8.30.am

Good to hear. It's almost un heard of someone defending Celtic fans singing Irish rebel songs etc on the radio or on TV.

Surprised that you made a sensible post or that this thread is hard work?:97::icon_mrgreen:

Of course powers even beyond peter lawwell are putting pressure on sections of the celtic support but even if they weren't I still think lawwell would be taking a stance about things like this, which is disappointing..

He is a great business man who who is supposed to be doing his best for the club, the fans are the club and the quicker he realises that and sticks to business rather than driving away drives the safer his seat will be here..
I've stuck up for him plenty on here but there has been some instances I don't..

I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
Love was out to get me
    That's the way it seemed.
    Disappointment haunted all my dreams.

Then I saw her face, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
    I'm in love, I'm a believer!
    I couldn't leave her if I tried.

As many Celtic fans like to say ever remembrance Sunday

"it is shoved down your throat" You can not avoid it.

It's not to do with it being politically correct, it's to do with it not having anything to do with the football being played on the pitch. I don't know why other like minded people don't make their own singing groups and only sing songs about the team. As I have said I think the displays like what has been shown the past 2 games and other ones such as the poppy display are the main things that need to stop.

"Surely there are enough Celtic songs without introducing religion or politics or anything else?"
    - Jock Stein

That is the opinion I hold on the songs being sung, there is no point in me repeating myself over and over for many different posters when I can just post that which sums up my opinion on the songs perfectly.

However as I have said multiple times, my main problem is some of the displays that the Green Brigade have done.

So you actively want the likes of Walk On, Celtic Symphony, Fields of Athenrye, even * Jimmy Johnstone's rendition of Dirty old Town removed from the songbook - considering it actually has NOTHING to do with the football on the park?

It's not SHOVED down anyone's throats - people sing songs that have been sing at Parkhead for a generation before they were there - if you don't like it (and I'll ask again seeing as you avoided an answer) - why don't you and the (allegedly) many opposition we have at Celtic against Irish rebs get up aff yer yer * and counter the singing with songs PURELY to do with the ball being kicked around the pitch?

Some people in this country don't understand the motives behind the poppy banners so they just label us being pro terrorists nutjobs. It is about being against war and bloodshed not about being anti-British or pro-IRA.

Jock Stein who wanted rebel songs before big European games.

What's your opinion on The Fields and Let The People Sing?
