I think he attacks the ball well in the air, especially crosses, on his home League debut I think he came on and won about 3/4 headers from crosses into the box.

I agree though he gets done for fouling all the time on long balls punted from the back.

Balde is a big clumsy hoor who is going to be a work in progress. It would be * madness to put him into a game like this ahead of Stokes. Balde doesn't even try to close players down while Stokesy is one of our hardest workers and one of our most creative players. * sake, he'll be lucky to start tomorrow never mind against Ajax

They lost tonight at home to Vitesse. More or less the same team they played against us too.

I just caught the last 10 minutes or so of their league game against Vitesse and despite hitting the post (from a free-kick cross), they showed no real menace at all and as for defending, they were all over the place, slow to react and track back and it was a howler for giving away possession that led to Vitesse's late winner.

Now that they are struggling so much in the league, having to come back next weekend is starting to perhaps take on more importance to the club than getting anything in Europe. Surely, the league is the most important trophy to collect?

With that in mind, we might just have to cutting-edge going into this game on Wednesday night. We can get a result there for sure, I'd take a draw in this one. But a win would be unbelievable. 6 points and probably 1 in front of Milan come that home game in 3 weeks time.

2nd spot would be great and 3rd spot also. As long as we're in Europe after xmas then I'll be happy enough with that, regardless of what competition we're vying to win.

It's got to be 5 in the middle with Kayal, Mulgrew and Ledley being the CM's IMO.

If we need a goal then we have the option of taking one of them off and putting Commons on.

The thing that strikes me is that we will have a strong bench which could effectively change the game tenfold

Hoping Commons can provide the spark we need in the final third. Stokes has to be clinical if he gets any opportunities and we need to take our chances from set pieces. Hopeful we can raise our game and get the win.

Nah I can't see Sammy as our central striker working tbh. Stokes needs to start this one.

Yup this is the line up I'd go for. I'm 100% confident Stokes will be hugely influential and will prove a lot of his doubters wrong on Wednesday! :celt_2:

Absolutely. I really hope that Stokes can become a CL player for us. I'd rate Stokesy as almost as good as Hooper when in the SPL, Hooper did well for us in Europe, and now Stokes can do it for us too.

He wants to spend years with us now and he can only get better, along with the rest of the squad. We've got a core of players who have spent years with each other and still a young team at that, with an average age of what must be 25/26, there's only more and more success in the future with this team. With Lenny at the helm all the way!

From what I saw in the home leg everything Ajax do is through the middle, we should close them down quickly, it'll help if we have Commons in the hole.

and Sammy and Forrest caused their full backs a lot of problems-especially
    Forrest.

Stokes could well be the man if we're to win the game.
